George Allen to Senate: Secure the Borders
NewsMax ^ | 4/16/06 | NewsMax

2008 presidential hopeful George Allen urged his Senate colleagues on Sunday to "put the pedal to the metal" on immigration reform and "first and foremost, secure the borders."

"[For] the people out there in the real world . . . this is a hot issue," Sen. Allen told CBS's "Face the Nation." "I think the Senate needs to put the pedal to the metal, get moving, make decisions and first and foremost, secure the borders."

On some of the amnesty bills currently before Congress, Allen said: "We should not reward illegal behavior because all you'll get is more illegal behavior."

Asked if Republican-controlled Congress would "be hurt" by further inaction on illegal immigration, Allen said: "I think Republicans need to stand up for the rule of law. I think Republicans need to stand up for securing our borders. And I think Republicans - and all people - ought to look at history."

The Virginia GOP'er noted that in 1986, amnesty was provided to the 3 million illegals then in the country.

"Now we have approximately 11 million in the country illegally," he added. "Twenty years from now we're going to have 20 million.

"We need to do this right, do it properly and learn from history."

Hopefully, the senate will follow through.

Fat chance – they’re all tripping over themselves going for the Latino vote.

It pays to keep track of what politicians say and do, doesn't it?

Actually, now we have approximately 20 million in the country illegally and Twenty years from now we're going to have 50 million.

I think its over 20 million, since the methodlogy being used to measure is so flawed.

A Big part of the problem is that guys like Tom Tancredo and the Minuiteman project also continue to cite the false figure of 11 million, if Tancredo and the rest of them would stop using the wrong number they have been mislead to believe and start using better numbers, it would make our case easier.

To show you how screwed up this is, the 11 million number is supposed to be 1/3 of all immigrants, the estimate for legal immigrants is 23 million.

Tell me, in this country of almost 300 million, do you really believe there are only 23 million LEGAL immigrants total?

Yes, indeed.

George Allen is just tickling our ears with this latest rhetoric. He can't be serious.

Oops. No, pro-life. He can also claim to be a cowboy. Did I hear he chews tobacco?

Is George Allen pro-abortion?

He says no.

As a senator and also has a governor he had perfect pro-life records.

However, back in 92 when he was in the house, he had a single pro-abortion vote.

As of August last year, he came out against stem cell research, but his rhetoric doesn't sound pro-life even if his record is solid pro-life.

Allen supports abortion in the earliest stages of the first trimester. After brainwaves and a heartbeat, then apparently the right to life kicks in.

My hope is the the 2008 nominee will be Allen, but I would be happy with Tancredo or Pence. I have a feeling that the VP nominee will also be one of these three.

Diddo. The Hildabeast will go down BIG TIME with this scenerio.

I don't think a pro-choice Republican can win in the primaries. I hope a pro-choice Republican can't win in the primaries.

As for securing the border, he's got a to do a whole lot more than make a speech about it.

He was for it, before he was against it.

Or in the least has been wishy-washy on the issue.

Allen will say anything to get elected--John Kerry-esque.

George Allen has the electabiltiy of Harold Stassen. The only weaker candidate is Frist.

And nationally, Allen's name ID is barely a blip on the radar.

Just ask the man on the street. Most folks I've talked to never heard of him.

I miswrote on the first point. But as for that, it is called traking a position. But, as you say, he now has to do something. In the senatteit is hard to do anything.

Allen is not going to do anything until next year. A lot depends on what happens in November. Remember it took Reagan twelve years to build a faction in the Republican Party. But Allen has to be bold enough to offer a consistent;y conservative program. It will help him even in the Senate.

Granting 3 million illegals amnesty was one of Reagan's few mistakes. Bush has learned nothing from history regarding amnesty.

My only fault with Allen's analysis is that his estimate is too low. If we grant 12 million illegals amnesty, I predict the number will be 40 - 50 million in 20 years.

No, they don't.

Jim Gilchrist, the founder of the Minuteman Project, believes the actual number is over 30 million in the country now, and has said so publically many times.

Allen's Handlers: "Look here, Senator Blow-Dry, you need to say something to get out in front of this issue if you want to keep the right-wing nut jobs...er, conservative voters interested in your 2008 campaign. Here. Read this text on Face the Nation."

Allen: "Uhhhh...I think the Senate needs to put the pedal to the metal, get moving, make decisions and first and foremost, secure the borders."

The Gullible Conservative Majority: "Allen's our man for 2008!"

~meanwhile, back in DC...~

K Street Power-Broker #1: "I'm a little worried about the rhetoric coming from this Allen character...I thought he was our man, bought and paid-for?"

K Street Power-Broker #2: "He is, but our...ahem, his handlers have told how to play the game. He doesn't want to cut the cartel money pipleline any more than we do, but the "citizens" are getting restless. Why don't they just get in their SUV's, drive to the mall, spend lots of money, and appreciate the society we've created for them? There is no need for them to meddle in affairs that are beyond their understanding. They trusted Bush for a while, until that Meirs fiasco...maybe Allen's little speech will keep them quiet for a bit, before they get any ideas about resisting our agenda. It's for their own good, after all."

K Street Power-Broker #1: "You think Allen can quiet them down in 2008?"

K Street Power-Broker #2: "He's just what the country trusts - a tough-talking Southerner who isn't bright enough to do any real damage. Hillary would give the game away...besides, she loves exercising power too much to be trusted with the big chair. We'll keep her around through - she's good for frightening the mental midgets in fly-over country. If we can threaten them with the prospect of her as President, they'll accept almost any alternative."

K Street Power-Broker #1: "And he won't get any big ideas that he really is in charge?"

K Street Power-Broker #2: ""We haven't had a guy think that since Reagan. He messed up our timetable a little, but we're back on track now. And believe me, Allen is no Reagan..."
