No remembrance day is not an holiday. There has been some talk of having a veterans day in June whether that will be a public holiday I am not certain.

There is also talk of a British day again whether that is to be a public holiday or not I am not sure.

As I said the 5 week holiday gradually came into force when unions were at their height. I can remember mum having to work a whole year before she was entitled to holiday though because she was in a small office. Since then though the 3 week rule has been introduced. Personally I think with the faster pace nowadays we need at least 3 weeks.

The 5 weeks are nice but I see this as a perk not a right the same with sickness. The company I work for is an engineering company and our benefits come from the time when it was union (AUEW) when the union went the company basically gave all employees office and works similar benefits to negotiate the union out.

So in some cases the office staff benefited from union negotiated perks and the works benefited from being entitled to perks that were considered historically only office workers got.

The longer holiday has only been since the second world war and up to the middle 80s to early 90s when by that time most unions in private industry were either non existent or only used as independent witness in employer/employee despites not wage and benefit negotiations on block. Viva Magaret Thatcher praise God she broke the unions before the current Labour government got in.

But, Johnnie, I don't think they really live under the table.

I mean, there are so many opportunities to detect illegals and deport them if the government really wanted to.

Everytime they enter the System, for benefits, for traffic violations, for crimes, and especially for benefits, they could be checked out and deported.

But deporting prisoners in the current state of affairs would be a joke, as they would just come right back as free men.

I think really closing the borders is the first step, and, yeah, I'll put a couple of days in on building the fence.

Then we can talk about other stuff.

...It's our wealthy secure life style that brings them...

Excellent quote about the third world. Unless you have spent serious time there you just can't get the picture. For me it was Haiti. We have it so good here we just don't realize how much of the world would love to have the opportunities we have.

That's why we will lose the country without strict immigration laws that are enforced with strongly enforced borders.

Aside from that it's hardly fair to other countries to favor one particular country simply because we share a common border.

In some ultra evangelical churches they see the each Pope as image of the Antichrist to come and ultimately the last Pope will be the anti Christ.

Do not flame me am not stating my belief but that of some way out evangelicals. I may as such not be in full agreement with the office of Pope as as non conformist Evangelical but I would never go that far and respect your Pope and your beliefs.

I believe though this belief is getting less and less even amongst this group certainly in England.

It's weird. There are a few people who totally hate Bush one and two, and not because of politics.

They seem like such nice guys, one wonders????

That was H. Ross Perot's whole motive in running third party, to defeat George One and he succeeded.

I guess that, and having more money than seems possible, has made him a happy man. Or maybe not. Hate doesn't usually work that way.

There are probably people in Texas who know the origin of Perot's hate, but I never found out what it was.

nah- I would never flame you...

I think it is wise for us to remember that not all is what we deem it to be...

remember how Jesus came on a donkey... but the Jews of the day always thought the Messiah would come as a ROYAL, EARTHLY, king....

plus I realize you are just stating what some have proposed as plausible thought...

;-)

I never thought Cohen was a working Senator, he wrote books that nobody read, and sucked up to Clinton and other Dems while claiming that he was a Republican. He was totally useless as a Senator. I do not know even one bill that he ever introduced. He had no qualifications to be Secretary of Defense, and Rummy has an overabundance of qualifications.

@@@@

Agreed, just another example of the media double standard. Also, another nail in the coffin of dem-enabling media whenever a thinking person notices the absolute silence on the topic of Clinton's Cabinet members.

George Will is simply a House Republican. He simply spews what his Junk Media Masters expect to hear. He has forgotten which side he supposedly is on.

That excactly right. Enforcment, NOT pie in the sky fantasy talk about "Removing the incentives". You will have to STOP them. As the President said in his 04-08-2006 Speech.

Personally I think he should do 1, then move on to 2 if he can by 2009 and leave the third for the next President. But that just my opinon of the issue. ****** made clear that a comprehensive immigration reform bill must include three elements: First, comprehensive immigration reform must secure our borders. Since I took office, we've increased funding for border security by 66 percent, and Federal agents have apprehended and sent home more than 6 million people entering this country illegally, including more than 400,000 with criminal records. To improve security at the border, we're hiring thousands more Border Patrol agents; we're deploying new technologies like infrared cameras and unmanned aerial vehicles to help our agents do their jobs; we're installing physical barriers to entry, like fences in urban areas. We're making good progress, but we have much more work ahead to gain control of our border. I'll continue to work with Congress to strengthen border security, so we can prevent illegal immigrants from crossing our border and make the immigration system more orderly and secure. Second, comprehensive immigration reform must strengthen the enforcement of our laws in America's interior. Since I took office, we've increased funding for immigration enforcement by 42 percent, increased the number of immigration enforcement agents and criminal investigators, enhanced worksite enforcement, and gone after smugglers, gang members, and human traffickers. A good immigration bill should enhance our ability to stop document fraud and help employers comply with our laws.
