Neighbor arrested for murder; investigators temporarily rule out chatroom abductor

PURCELL -- Just steps from her father's apartment on N. 8th St, investigators said they identified and apprehended Friday afternoon a 26-year-old man they believe is responsible for the kidnapping and subsequent murder of 10-year-old Jamie Rose Bolin.
Bolin was reported missing after she failed to return home Wednesday afternoon from a trip to the library.
A downstairs neighbor, Kevin Ray Underwood, is being held without bond in the McClain County Jail today and will be charged with one count of first degree murder Monday, said District Attorney Tim Kuykendall at a press conference late Friday night.
"In my 24 years as a prosecutor, I have never, ever been involved in a case that was quite as atrocious, heinous and as cruel as to what happened to this little girl," Kuykendall said. "We intend to seek the death penalty on this."
As of press time, officials were securing search warrants for Underwood's car and apartment, both sites which may yield even more charges, Kuykendall said.
Earlier in the investigation, it was believed Bolin was abducted by a possible Internet contact who drove a dark blue Tahoe. Friday night, Kuykendall said "as it turns out, the information is probably going to be unrelated (to Bolin's murder)."
Police apprehended Underwood at his apartment around 4 p.m. Friday after he began acting suspiciously at a police roadblock earlier that day.
The neighbor, said Bolin's aunt Linda Chiles, "pretty much kept to himself" and was relatively unknown to Bolin or her father, Curtis.
As of press time, Kim Carter of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, said he was unable to determine how long Bolin was kept alive at the apartment before she was killed, nor were officials able to release any details related to the ongoing investigation.
"This is not like TV, it will not be wrapped up in a 60-second present," he said.
Jamie's uncle, Mark Chiles, still reeling from the news that his 10-year-old niece was kidnapped, likely held against her will and killed, said he warned parents everywhere to "hold onto their kids tight."
"This happened less than 10 feet of where (her father lived)," he said. "People need to know who their neighbors are."

Exactly correct.
Only the ones that are caught should be executed.
Of course if we execute all those guilty of murdering children under 13,the abortion industry will be short a few doctors and staff.
In 1973 a small group of old men declared human life intrinsically worthless. All the rest follows from that embrace of evil. The same old men who condemned helpless innocents preserved the lives of countless vicious murderers in a different ruling.
If only the Wild West days feared by hoplophobes did return the crime rate would be LESS than at present.
Sorry, but they're called child molesters and rapists also. So is the 19-year-old who has sex with a 16-year-old. The teacher who inappropriately touches a student is a child molester.
Now, when we come up with different categories for these types of activities, then maybe what you're saying will make some sense. Until then, they're all child molesters, they all get registered as sex offenders, they all serve life sentences (though not in prison), and the posters on this forum will continue to call for their castration and execution.
Like I said, I'm too nice. I should be mad at her. I should be like "Bitch, you better pay me back!" Instead, I feel bad about her paying me back. I'm pathetic. I let people walk all over me in social situations. I inconvenience myself just so other people can get what they want....
Even if I didn't discover that he was a child murderer later on, it's very clear that this is not a nice guy. He's burning with anger under the surface. What stops him from violently attacking people who piss him off is personal cowardice--the fear of social and legal consequences. Not any nobility, not any Christian sense of turning the other cheek.
I'm not mad at Melissa though. Dissappointed, but not mad. I could never be mad at her.
He's furious. He's as angry as Ted Bundy was at the brunette with long straight hair, whoever she was, who rejected him. But, because he's a "nice guy," he won't lay a hand on Melissa.
But I'd bet anything that poor Jamie Rose had some physical characteristic that reminded this loser of Melissa.
Well the laws can be modified as they have been here in Louisiana. A perp rapes a kid 12 and under the penalty is very harsh. The laws do need to be redefined. I have no problem with that because there is a difference in serial pedophilia and simply someone taking jail bait and thinking with the wrong head.
I know here too one thing that is taken into consideration is the age gap. I had a couple of cases where the perp was still a minor but the victim was more than 3 years younger. There's some fairly harsh penalties for juvenile perps. It's a major red flag.

According to a news conference last night on an OKC televison station the suspect does not have a criminal record.
I believe that God has a special place in Hell reserved for those who hurt children.
Watch for the news stories to be posted on our local news sites (don't see any YET, but I have to leave for the evening). They just held a press conference again, because of all the rumors going around. What rumors could be worse than what actually happened, I don't know--but apparently this guy was a Jeffrey Dahmer wanna-be, and had tried to behead her, cut off her limbs, and drained her blood to drink later. There were more details, all of them beyond awful. I won't sleep well tonight, that's certain.
Let the child rapist apologists on this board defend him all they want, they can jolly well kiss my grits.
That might be the ONLY positive thing to come out of this horror--this might have been his first, and with any luck, his last.

There is right and wrong, black and white. People can make excuses for their behavior but it is clear that there are consequences to actions. This is a good read but it's so sad to know that these things are happening all too often and our children are suffering because of it. It may not apply to Jamie's killer but it definitely speaks of child rapist apologists. You might want to read it later on sometime.

That's horrible! I pray that it's just rumors especially since it happened with her family right there. I can't imagine the hell they must be going through, especially if those rumors are true.

Statement read by Purcell Police Chief David Tompkins
Evidence was found and seized from the apartment, to include the bicycle found dismantled under the Defendant's bed. The body of the victim, Jamie Rose Bolin was found in a plastic tub in the closet of the bedroom.
Other items seized from the apartment included:
- A decorative dagger believed to be used in an attempt to cut off the victim's head
- A hacksaw
- Duct tape
- Meat tenderizer
- BBQ skewers
- A duffle bag
- A mug, the victim is believed to have brought with her when she entered the apartment on Wednesday
- A video on serial killers
- A computer
- A wooden cutting board
The State Medical Examiners Office performed an autopsy today. The report is being finalized with an official cause of death. The victim is believed to have been hit on the head with the wooden cutting board 3-4 times. After which investigators believe the Defendant put his hand over her mouth to smother her as well as having a piece of duct tape put over her mouth. Victim is believed to have died on Wednesday, before law enforcement officers began their search.
Investigators do not believe there are any other victims. Investigators believe there were very likely other potential targets or victims, before Rose was chosen. These other targets were both male and female, both children and adults.
Regarding a potential motive, this appears to have been part of a plan to kidnap a person, rape them, torture them, kill them, cut off their head, drain the body of blood, rape the corpse, eat the corpse then dispose of the organs and bones.
The victim was found with deep saw marks to her neck in an apparent attempt to decapitate the body. It is believed the body was sexually molested after the death.
See post #118 with the horrendous graphic details of what happened to this little girl. I would recommend this creep be hung in the town square for all to witness! Words defy me on this inhuman act.
