The 950' container ship New Delhi Express has grounded at the entrance to Port Elizabeth in NY harbor. She is listing heavily to her starboard and her draft has increased from 35' to 44' since striking the edge of the ship channel at Bergen Point. No news organizations covering this yet.

I just passed her while taking my tug out. She grounded just west of the Bayonne Bridge. The majority of the port of NY is closed. This ship is in trouble and the harbor could remain closed for some time. All of Port Elizabeth and Kill Van Kull is closed to all marine traffic. Visibility here is 0 (less than 1/4 mile). New Delhi Express grounded at 0430. A FreeRepublic scoop!

Thanks. Most of the media is busy bashing Rumsfeld with disgruntled perfumed princes. No time for real time news.

Not as exciting as a FNC car chase.

Nice work, AV. Thanks for the report. Is the ship loaded with containers?

Definitely a scoop...Congratulations! And I hope the closing of the harbor doesn't make things go wild and crazy for you guys on the tugs! I'm thinking maritime traffic jam.

Newday had an article on it at 7:30. Latest from them is that the ship was refloated at 7 a.m and traffic is moving again.

Rove did this to distract the media from the kerfuffle over Rummy. Do I have to explain everything to you?

I love large container vessels.
950' is pretty big, but still short of the 1500' Columbo Express.

Yes. Laptop and EVDO connection. Wireless broadband is good all over the harbor.
I'm tied up a mile away now. Sent this in as soon as we put lines on the dock.
