If you get a chance to watch this, look for my son, Gary Livacari, the newly elected Chairman of the George Washington College Republicans. He's the one who introduces the moderator.
This event was held at George Washington University on April 6th. According to Gary, it went well, although rather tame. No significant fireworks. Horowitz treated him rather civilly. He could have really "laid him out" but chose not to.
Immediately following the debate, both appeared on Hannity and Colmes, which many of you may have seen, where Sean Hannity really went after Churchill, repeatedly demanding an apology for his vile "little Eichmann" remarks (referrring to the victims of 9/11). Given ample opportunity to do so, Churchill never apologized.

I'd love to see the actual debate, though. Thanks for the heads up.

I just viewed the debate on C-SPAN
Horowitz was great but his mike was turned down lower than Churchills and he has a bad habit of waving his hands - hitting the mike and podium which was very distracting.
Churchill has a smoker's voice, bad breathing problems as well....he should give up smoking. As for his poltics....
well I'll leave it at that.

I thought Churchill was a burn-out case from drugs (peyote, too many puffs at the peace pipe ;-) )
While Churchill is a loon and probably not fit to teach a kindergarten class he was probably not the right person to debate Horowitz.
I would rather see one of the profs on Horowitz's list on the other side of the debate.
It was fun to watch Churchill try to defend Howard Zinn's Marxist propaganda "History of the US" as a textbook for social services classes.
I think Horowitz needed to explain the cult atmosphere that pervades Marxist and Marcusian faculty groups. Key elements of a cult include:
--Non falsifiability of beliefs (no evidence could exist that would have a bearing on their belief systems)
--Wild predictions about the future (global warming is one example, overpopulation used to be an old favorite, along with global cooling ;-))
--Fundamental fraud (using "academic freedom" and "research" as a front for agitation and propaganda)
--Inflated self-esteem (we are smart and good, the capitalists and imperialists are stupid and bad).
--Isolation from the society as a whole with tenure protecting them from economic realities.
The debate didn't work for me despite the fact that the issues are very important and interesting.

I watched it and was totally shocked at the lacking of Churchill. I have some unskilled laborers working on my house right now. One is an arm-chair professor who knows everything about everything and wastes no time injecting his own machinations as fact. These types show up in city-parks, barstools. Other then extending his lectures past his breaks, he is harmless and somewhat entertaining. He speaks more intelligently then Churchill!! He is not receiving a Professors stipend. He is not influencing our youth. He also demonstrates better dental hygiene.

Thanks for adding to the information. I am afraid I was too angry to report anything of substance.
I finally had the presence of mind to start recording it about fifteen minutes into the program. They did rerun it later that evening.
When I feel calm enough I will watch it again. Horowitz had so much to tell us, but his delivery didn't work for him..and as you said, he might have chosen a professor who was equally familiar with formal debate but perhaps more strident.
The moderator was pretty fair - which also surprised me!!
I liked the way Horowitz pointed out the young man who taped a twenty-minute classroom diatribe by a high school teacher on Bush = Hitler.... he was in attendance and given kudos....
Churchill looks quite unhealthy to me. He is a copy of so many in academia....who dishonor the concept of opening young minds in education rather than oppressing them through indoctrination.

churchill..these types show up in city parks on benches...
Good description.
If you didn't know who Churchill was and you passed him on the street you would definitely think he was a homeless person about to beg for money.
When he opened his mouth and started talking your opinion would just be confirmed! :-)
The taxpayers of Colorado are being ripped off big time.
