This whole thing is a disgrace...the season is ruined and the coach lost his job. All because of this liar and the admin which has absolutely no balls.

Doesn't "attempted" imply "tried and failed"?

There's a problem with the description of the woman in the car...it sounds like she is passed out drunk, but then why would they say "she won't get out?" How do you reason with someone who's passed out? How does a passed out person 'refuse' to get out of the car?

Conspicuously downplayed in the Raleigh News and Observer where this morning we have a fluffy headline article about the Trinity Park listserver. (Trinity park is the neighborhood next to campus where subject house is located.)

Hidden below is the link about the search:

http://www.newsobserver.com/102/story/428674.html

In the print edition, the Trinity Park article was on the front page, and the "Mangum was drunk" story was relegated to a sidebar inside. And it apparently doesn't appear on line.

Looks like Nifong is still looking for some evidence.

No charges have been filed, but District Attorney Mike Nifong has said he believes a crime was committed.

I'd say that the crime is filing a false police report.

She also apparently had a death grip on the brake handle which a passed out drunk would not do either. My theory, posted elsewhere, is that she had just realized she was about to be nailed by the cops for public drunkenness and who knows what else. Rather than "drunk and unresponsive", I'm thinking "paralyzed with fear and in denial".

She has two kids and a long history of problems with the bottle and the law. My own speculation is that social services is after her and one more arrest would have been a death knell for her custodial rights so she cried rape. But that's just my theory.

You mean, like she's maybe afraid of losing her kids? That the rape story is to buy her time until the final alcohol-related arrest takes her down and out?

I've avoided commenting on this story, because it's entirely believable that a bunch of drunk jocks, who hired two female "escorts" to strip for them, at what amounts to a frat house, would get completely out of hand and do something similar to the tale that has been told.

But, now that more details are coming to the surface, it appears that at least one of these two girls showed up for their "performance" in a really bad state, highly intoxicated and banged up, perhaps to the point that at least one of the two was unable to provide the "entertainment" for which they had been hired. I doubt they had been paid beforehand. I'm beginning to envision something along the lines of "you white boys better pay up or we'll say you're racists and that you raped us." The chink in the armor of the "racist" angle is that this bunch of white boys hired them in the first place ... not very indicative of racism to me.

Do residents of dorm rooms have the same legal rights as regular tenants? Can the University give permission to search a dorm room? I seem to remember there being somewhat less rights for on-campus housing than in the real world.

"Story developing"

If there were no warrants, then the police may have been denied entry which means, all together now, "The Duke Players are Guilty!"
