An Iraqi officer of significant rank approached my translator as I quietly took notes near the banks of the Euphrates River, at a combat observation post named COP Dunlop. He knew I was an embedded American. He had a sense, perhaps, that I was a sympathetic soul, and he wanted to pass along an urgent message.

Nope you still don't understand. There are "good" Muslims simply because they don't strictly adhere to the Islamic ideology. In other words, they call themselves Muslims just like Ted Kennedy calls himself a Catholic.
Who do you think helped rebuild Germany after WWII? (reformed Nazis) Who helped create Japan's economy after WWII (Moderate Shintos)? Who is rebuilding the Russian states now? (Former socialists)
Moderate Islamists ARE our partners in Iraq and ARE dying alongside our troops for freedom. Yet more and more Islamists keep signing up for the Iraqi army even though they die by the thousands in the name of freedom.
Thread hijackers aren't much fun to be around either.
There's some really important stuff in this article about a few important things, but I don't think your or my ability to "trust muslims" was in there anywhere.
That is where we disagree. They are "good" Muslims because they believe in individual freedom.
What separates us is that I don't give a damn about what religion they follow as long as they believe in individual freedom.
Do you think that just because they follow Islam they should all die?
Yet the Shinto faith lives on. We did not destroy the faith, we destroyed those that used it for evil and elevated those that believed in individual freedom....just as we would destroy the leadership of a Christian nation if they were a threat.
No I agree with that. Fundamentalist Islam is incompatible with individual freedom, since it is both a religious and political system that must be followed.
What separates us is that I don't give a damn about what religion they follow as long as they believe in individual freedom.
Nope, I agree with that.
Do you think that just because they follow Islam they should all die?
Nope. The only ones that should die are the ones that want to kill us or convert us and create a new caliphate.
Dancing around a bit?
Before, you were condemning all Islam and all people of the Islamic faith. Now you are making the distinctions between fundamentalists and the rest.
Thanks for the posting.
Yes I condemn the entire ideology of Islam.
and all people of the Islamic faith.
Where did I say that?
Here Here. Sanity in the sea of ignorance is so refreshing.
If I may be so bold as to inject a few small corrections .. "...the ones that want to kill us or convert us (by violence)and create a new caliphate (by violent means)."
You can't blame a guy for trying to convert or spread a religion in a peaceful manner..however sick the so called religion might be.
We even let the celebrity (who will go unnamed) who is trying to spread scientology get his shot in....the idiot.
Islam will die a slow death when people who now call themselves Muslims have the right to choose their religion and not have it dictated to them.
Yes I condemn the entire ideology of Islam.
and all people of the Islamic faith.
Where did I say that?
Is this Bill Clinton?
You cannot condemn the whole and excuse the part....
...and then turn around and......
...condemn the bad parts and excuse the whole.
You're not making sense. Plenty of people call themselves Muslims without following the ideology to the letter like the fundies do. The fundies are correctly practicing historical Islam. The moderates are merely identifying with the faith without correctly practicing it. I can't make it much clearer than that.
Islam is doing a great job in Europe nonviolently by simply outbreeding the native population. This should be combatted unless we want to all start praying toward the east before long. The ideology is a cancer and allowing it to take hold in a country will be the death of freedom in that country.
That's what the Protestants said about the Catholics as they where being thrown out of bell towers in France during the religious wars. Look how far Catholics have come since then. No guillotines at all.
Hehehe. (Just saying that now makes me laugh. I have a bunch of Catholic friends...hahaha)
On the depressing side..it took centuries for that to happen and a lot of blood was shed.
I couldn't agree with you more. The solution is obvious. Repopulate and keep immigration to a minimum.
We have to rethink our family size in the civilized world.
Dinner out of one big pot at a large family table is looking more and more like the propaganda that the government needs to push.(Odd how the church has thought this all along isn't it?).
Muslim women say it simply....they are the ones who are giving birth to the one world religion...literally.
Read history. Islam has announced itself in blood throughout time, and still does.
Ideaologies CAN be evil inherently. You don't think the very idea of Naziism was/is evil?
Your comparison of gun owners to Muslims is laughable. People own guns-Islam owns people.
Guns do not demand their owners use them to subjugate others. Guns-and other gun owners- will not kill another owner who does not use it to subjugate or kill others.
Islam is not an object that can be picked up or not. It is imbedded in the Muslim brain from birth. To reject it is to incur the wrath of others infected with it; and that rule against rejecting it is PART of the package.
You don't call a belief system that says you must die- and other believers must kill you if you disobey or disagree with it-evil?
What people believe makes them what they are. If millions of 'good' Muslims refuse to separate themselves from the Islam we now know, why do you insist on doing it?
I'm not a big WND fan -- I'm very skeptical of it and I think Farrah is a blowhard metrosexual. But this piece is a must read. It will help kill The Dictatorship of the Media.
If this thread has wandered off on a tangent because of me, I apologize. I simply read the article and thought that trust was a big factor in the reporters reaction to the Iraqi and in our reaction to how Iraqis act while we are there.
It makes the reporter, our soldiers, and some of us feel good to see Iraqis wave and smile and have friendly encounters.I just worry that there's entirely too much trust on our part.
What an odd choice for a journalist to make.
