You're not making sense. Plenty of people call themselves Muslims without following the ideology to the letter like the fundies do. The fundies are correctly practicing historical Islam. The moderates are merely identifying with the faith without correctly practicing it. I can't make it much clearer than that.
That's what the Protestants said about the Catholics as they where being thrown out of bell towers in France during the religious wars. Look how far Catholics have come since then. No guillotines at all.
