"Social Justice” and Other High School Indoctrinations

Leftist political indoctrination in the classroom is now even more pernicious in K-12 education than it is on the university campus. While their protestations are often a sham, the higher education professorate at least pays lip service to the ideal of political neutrality in the classroom and of disinterested scholarship. When there have been revelations of professors egregiously indoctrinating students in leftist political views or intimidating conservative students (as in the Ward Churchill case) administrators have responded that these are isolated examples. When confronted with surveys showing that liberals outnumber conservatives in their humanities departments by a factor of 10-1 – or greater – these administrators usually argue that this is irrelevant, because professors are in any case duty bound to keep their personal political views out of the classroom.

Thus the job of reforming higher education can be advanced by revealing the professorate’s hypocrisy, and then by challenging the universities to live up to their own stated ideals. The situation is altogether worse in K-12 education (although perhaps less hypocritical.) Here we have many of the nation’s leading teacher training and professional institutions stating openly that it is the obligation of all caring K-!2 teachers to help mold their students’ attitudes on controversial political and social issues. These institutions openly support the idea of teaching and advocating for “social justice,” “peace,” “diversity” and “multiculturalism” in the classroom.

Horowitz is a genius. He is getting a lot farther on this and faster than I imagined possible.

If I am not mistaken, about 25 years ago, Horowitz also warned the government not to let the feminists get their claws into the military. I hope his current warnings are heeded.

He's not exaggerating one bit, either. I got my credential 2 years ago and I did indeed have to read Bill Ayers, as well as a ton of other marxist dogma. Moreover, the stuff is infused throughout the curriculum the children must read. And I mean, MUST read.

For instance, as an ESL teacher I am required to use the Highpoint curriculum, which is rife with articles on the evils of nuclear power, the dire emergency state of our environment, and of course, America's Racist History. They're supposed to write a short essay about how FDRs social programs saved America from the Depression.

Then the mandatory state tests are full of essays about the evil rich and the noble poor, more about the racism of small-town America... the kids recognize pictures of Martin Luther King Jr on sight but I doubt they'd recognize Thomas Jefferson. And on and on.

"...more about the racism of small-town America..."

If you have a link where this is documented, I'd be interested in reading it.

I don't have a link, I'm telling you about what I see on the tests and in the paperbacks in our library.

"Social justice" is, along with "undocumented immigrant," the most irritating PC euphemism in America today.

If it wasn't outrageous enough the peddlers of that garbage like ward churchill and jay bennish go on and on in their personal diatribes and present 'facts' that are completely wrong.

That 'geography teacher' jay bennish said the US was the most violent nation on earth. While Venezeula has roughly 800% the murder rate of the US. Colombia's is even greater. Violent crime in the UK is much more common than in the US. He also strikes out with the claim that tobacco companies grow the most tobacco in the US, some other country has that title. These social justice preaching incompetents need to be removed from the teaching payrolls, not because of their political beliefs but because they are deseminating false information as 'facts'. Complete incompetence.
