Dear Friends
The following sample math problem was given to students as part of their final exam at Bellevue Community College in Washington State. I was asked by black students to represent them in this matter. Some of these students attend my church.
I am asking all of you and your friends to e-mail the school at the following e-mail addresses and express your outrage:
Advising@bcc.ctc.edu, tpritcha@bcc.ctc.edu, and amatsumo@bcc.ctc.edu.
The following is the math problem given to the students.
The Problem: Condoleezza holds a watermelon just over the edge of the roof of the 300 -foot Federal Building, and tosses it up with a velocity of 20 feet per second. The height of the watermelon above the ground t seconds later is given by formula h= -16t2 + 20t + 300
a. How many seconds will it pass her (she's standing at a height of 300 feet) on the way down?
b. When will the watermelon hit ground?
If they used this same problems and substituted Condoleezza's name with Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton, there would be mass protest and they would shut the college down. Because it was Condoleezza Rice, they wanted to ignore it until I showed up today.
Please e-mail the college and express your outrage and your support of having me at the table to resolve this issue. I am demanding that the college to do several things to correct the problem.
This is serious. Please do not let me down, I want thousands of e-mails to come from all across the country. A CBS affiliate, KIRO TV did cover this story.

Just an idea.
"Oh, no. But as with all things liberal, the great principle of anti-racism only applies to Leftists. Everyone else can be maligned and smeared at will."
It is very sad that they take that position. They are hypocrites for nopt reaxcting the same way when the object is Dr. Rice or Secretary Powell.
My point was that our response should be consistant. If we don't favor a crack down on all non politically correct speech then we should not change just because we admire the current target.
Didn't you know??
Racism is OK if the Black is a REPUBLICAN...
It's been that way for over a Decade now!
If your Liberal, you're allowed to use ANY racial slur when it's directed at a minority conservative...
Look for the fake memo. I'm sure it's there on your desk.....
"Disagree that we should blow if off. It is completely obnoxious and racist. It is not the story of the year but the jerk responsible should be seriously stung by the indignation of the citizens, i.e., us."
Maybe blow it off is too strong. My point was that we should not engage in a double standard - favoring PC limits on speech when the target is conservative if we dont fave such limits all the time.
It is so over the top as to be hardly believable.
Is there any way to turn something like this over to Snopes.com for verification?
How many Condoleeza's do you think there are that can stand atop a "Federal" building?
Your post #4......what ARE you babbling about?
"I'm just waiting for Jesse and Al to jump all over this!
(And this Sunday, I'm gonna look for Easter eggs!)"
You've got a better chance with the easter eggs...
"Your post #4......what ARE you babbling about?"
That we should not have a double standard - that limits on acdemic speech should be the same in all cases and not have a special standard just because we respect and admire Dr. Rice.
Does anyone know how that watermelon stereotype began because in the South both blacks and whites are watermelon eating fools!
And for obvious reasons-gets kind of hot in the summer down there and a cold slice of watermelon is just the right item to have on the picnic menu!
It's just sad.
I am not sure this should be dignified with outrage. MAybe best to ignore it.

The left's image of Dr. Rice is so wrong.
Be sure to forward this to Hannity, he wants all this type stuff to put on TV.
I would like some proof that this actually was a question posed to the class.
It is so over the top as to be hardly believable.

Exactly....
I agree.
I was merely stating what "they" would say.
Um, yes.
Of course it's a set-up.
"The Problem: Condoleezza holds a watermelon just over the edge of the roof of the 300 -foot Federal Building, and tosses it up with a velocity of 20 feet per second. The height of the watermelon above the ground t seconds later is given by formula h= -16t2 + 20t + 300"
"So I'm sure they will say they were referring to some other "Condoleezza"."
But the problem clearly states "Federal Building." That's going over the line and this is clearly racist garbage.
Racial sterotyping has no place in an academic setting.<P.It's ugly and unacceptable.
As telling is the inability to write a coherent sentence on the part of the so-called instructor.
