Condoleezza and the Watermelon (College math exam uses Rice with racial stereotype)

From: Rev. Wayne Perryman DoubleBro@aol.com

Dear Friends

The following sample math problem was given to students as part of their final exam at Bellevue Community College in Washington State. I was asked by black students to represent them in this matter. Some of these students attend my church.

I am asking all of you and your friends to e-mail the school at the following e-mail addresses and express your outrage:

Advising@bcc.ctc.edu, tpritcha@bcc.ctc.edu, and amatsumo@bcc.ctc.edu.

The following is the math problem given to the students.

The Problem: Condoleezza holds a watermelon just over the edge of the roof of the 300 -foot Federal Building, and tosses it up with a velocity of 20 feet per second. The height of the watermelon above the ground t seconds later is given by formula h= -16t2 + 20t + 300

a. How many seconds will it pass her (she's standing at a height of 300 feet) on the way down?

b. When will the watermelon hit ground?

If they used this same problems and substituted Condoleezza's name with Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton, there would be mass protest and they would shut the college down. Because it was Condoleezza Rice, they wanted to ignore it until I showed up today.

Please e-mail the college and express your outrage and your support of having me at the table to resolve this issue. I am demanding that the college to do several things to correct the problem.

This is serious. Please do not let me down, I want thousands of e-mails to come from all across the country. A CBS affiliate, KIRO TV did cover this story.

I applaud your actions. Never back down and never remain silent in the face of such ugliness.

Why didn't they use an example like this:

If Teddy poured two liters of vodka down his own throat, and another liter down the throat of an unsuspecting young girl, then drove 30 miles per hour off a bridge into a canal which was flowing south at at 3 knots. Solve the following two part question:

A. How long after he saved himself would the girl finally lose consciousness and die?

B. How long after he contacted the family attorney would he notify the authorities of his "accident"?

Hey.....you know why.....your version is too close to reality.

This was a hypothetical math question. :)

Remaining silent is an ugly condoning of the act

Nice purple prose there. Now, let's get specific. What you accomplished other than the disciplining of one faculty member AND increased power for the diversity police over ALL faculty and students? As a result of this campaign, the diversitycrats are laughly all the way to their mandatory sensitivity training.

BCC recommendations

BCC plans to take immediate steps to increase racial and cultural sensitivity at the college. The list of proposals includes:

• Creation of a vice president of Equity and Pluralism position.

• Creation of an Ombudsman position.

• Increased funding for pluralism training and development.

• Tracking data that illuminate places where the college fails to provide excellence to all students.

• A pluralism component in program review and employee evaluations.

• Having professional development days focus on pluralism, especially in the upcoming year, for faculty and staff.

I find it interesting that the college is reacting as if this was a racial slam when in fact it's a political hit done the only way they know how.

Interesting point you raise.

I think it was both.

The librals fear Condi Rice more than any other black Republican!

I'm not sure why saying black people like to eat watermelon is racist.

My neighbors are Mexican and beans are on the menu every night.

I'm German and love to eat kraut. So what?

Why can't you people be sensitive to other peoples' need to be insensitive?
