Just a reminder: Free Republic is a conservative site. We fight for conservative principles, values and causes. We defend the Constitution. We defend our borders. We defend our God-given rights. We are opposed to the liberal/socialist/Marxist agenda for America. We do not willingly give up ground to the Marxists.
It's true that the illegal immigration issue is very discouraging, and I don't know if anyone has a solution that will appeal to conservatives and yet manage to get by Democrat obstructionism, ie, a filibuster, but I don't see that as any reason to give up everything. We should not allow it to rip us apart and destroy the movement. We fight on.
We hold the majority. We continue working as hard as we possibly can to elect as many conservatives as we possibly can. We build a conservative majority that can overcome the Democrats and the RINOs. We do not willingly give up any seats to Democrats. We add seats. Preferably, conservative seats.
I would also like to remind everyone, that Free Republic does not condone racism and does not advocate violence. We exercise our first amendment rights to free speech and peaceable assembly. We do not condemn people because of their race, religion, ethnicity, skin color, etc. We do not advocate civil war, anarchy, or an overthrow of the government. We do not advocate shooting illegals or mining the borders. We do not appreciate people coming across our borders illegally, but as conservatives, we do not issue racial epithets or threaten them with violence or bodily harm.
And, yes, we are at war. And we do support our troops and their mission. We also respect our commander-in-chief and are mindful that when people disrespect him, it hurts troop morale. We do not appreciate the mainstream media's attempts to destroy America's will to fight and we do not do anything to assist the Democrats and their accomplices in the media in their treasonous mission of undermining the war effort by providing aid and comfort to the enemy.
And despite our dissatisfaction and disappointments in regards to the illegal immigration issue, we recognize that it is not the last issue on earth and there are plenty of other reasons not to allow the Marxist Democrats to retake power.
I'll list a few issues (by no means and exhaustive list) that will be adversely affected by Marxist/Democrats in power:
Islamofascism/terrorism
National Security/Defense
The United Nations (as in their control over us)
The Supreme Court
The federal judiciary
The legislative agenda
The right to life
Marriage between one man, one woman
The family
Education
Health care
Private property
Taxation
Oil/energy
The right to keep and bear arms
The right to freedom of religion
The right to self-governance
All of our God-given rights
The Constitution
The Republic
Liberty itself
Do not get so discouraged that we give it all up. It could take generations to get it back. If ever.
"Securing the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity" is our duty.
One must learn the art of causing trolls endless forms of grief, anger and frustration.
Sounds like you might enjoy reading Nevil Shute's novel, In the Wet.
That's very insightful. :-)
Hey, you're back. Welcome. 8~)
My closest friends in my town are all conservative and religious. One is a pentacostal of Hispanic heritage.
I once gave him a couple tickets for a dinner held by local Republican women's organization honoring our then congressman Bill Thomas, as I was out of town helping my folks move into assisted living at the time and couldn't go.
At that time he had long hair.
Sure wish I'd been there to see him and his wife arrive.
The trouble is, "the Republicans" won't be the ones receiving your "punishment." Give power to the Democrats (Marxists) and it'll be our conservative causes and our own people doing the suffering.
"Gee we don't have enough conservatives in office. I've got a great idea. Lets kick them all out and let the Democrats take total control. That'll teach the Republicans a lesson."
Hey, how about just electing more conservatives? Sheesh.
Whew! am I glad to hear this; silly me I thought this was a "republican" site.....!
As Hispanics move up the economic ladder they tend to vote more and more with Republicans.
The problem isn't with Hispanic immigrants per se, it is that the sheer numbers of them make assimilation very difficult.
Flooding always causes damage that takes time to repair.
Make a contribution to the RNC and he'll send you a White House Christmas card.
Correct, but the one Hispanic group that votes R the most,is rewarded by being intercepted at sea and sent back to a communist prison.
Thanks as always, Tonk BUMP!
Thanks for your kind welcome.
God's best to you and yours.
JIM ROB WAS GRACIOUS, PTL.
Am out of timeout. Now have to behave myself!
God's best to you and yours.
Thanks much for your kind note.
I like everything you wrote, JimRob, and have no disagreement with you.
It happens that the issue of illegal immigration and securing the borders is the one that is in our face right now, big time.
And in fighting this issue, to secure the borders, penalize the employers and build the fence I feel that I am fighting for the survival of this Great Nation.
I take what you are saying as a reminder of not WHAT to fight, but HOW to fight. I hope it does not come to civil war but, if it does, it will not be because we chose it. The politicians have let this problem fester through their deliberate negligence.
We are, and have been, the most welcoming, the most generous, the most tolerant, the most accommodating nation on the face of the earth. Due to that, and due to my background growing up here in Los Angeles, I am not going to let anyone call me a racist, ever. But we do have the right to say "Enough" to being a doormat for the world.
It's good to hear from our Benefactor (you) and regain focus on the Big Picture. I remain quite worried about the degree to which our nation has fallen from its original intent.
Liberals, commies, socialism, political correctness, appeasement: they all make my skin crawl. But I would like to see the Republicans support some true patriots and conservatives for office (both elected and appointed) so we can tell one side from the other.
I would daresay we have some conservatives on this site who would make outstanding candidates.
Thank you for this great site, Jim, and all you do for FReepers and for America.
Felt like forever.
JimRob was gracious.
Now to insure he's glad he was so kind!
God's best to you and yours.
This is the discussion we should be having.
We need to get together and figure out who to back in 2008 and start supporting the choice early.
My only quarrel with George Allen is that I don't think he has the credentials in his resume or the charisma to sell himself in the general election to the electorate.
I believe Condi and Jeb have taken themselves off the table because they don't want the home invasion and loss of privacy that would come with candidacy. Also, Condi is just more comfortable in an advisory role than a leadership role.
Guiliani has the leadership abilities but his private life is a mess, and because he comes from a liberal state, he has less than stellar positions on certain issues.
I would never support McCain. I might vote for him if the other choice was Hillary, but would never vote for him in a primary.
Frisk is a nice guy, maybe too nice, as he is pretty wobbly in his leadership skills.
I am not that familiar with the governors we have now. I want to start discussing them, as in 1998 I knew precious little about Gov. George W. Bush but by 1999 was contributing to his exploratory committee. And I am deliriously happy he won over Gore and Kerry.
LOL!
My typing skills are poor due to health problems.
Personally I liked Jimmy Stewart's band theory.
I don't know that I'd state it as strongly as "So they believe they must work against the United States' interests."
I am grateful the US decided to support us when Australia declared war on the Japanese Empire - you helped ssme.
However it remains that Americans have the tendency to be barbarians and believe the customs of their tribe are the laws of nature. And that the world would be better if forced into the American mould. The world's gonna resist.
I beileve that every society has the right to "be conservative" - to build on the traditions of their society. I would hope that they build in the direction of individual liberty, but that's just the libertarian in me.
Their society may no be of what I approve, but forcing them to chsnge will make them unhappy. Every revolutionary attempt to drastically change - be it Platonic, Roundhead, Jacobean, Bolshevik, Fascist, Taliban, or Christian Reconstrictuonist - is likely to turn out badly.
The best a society can hope to do is build on its tradition of the wisdom of the ages.
Edmund Burke pointed out that no generation has a monopoly on wisdom - we are not more intelligent than our ancestors, or wiser than out descendents. Therefore no single vison - ours, or even Lao Tzu, Moses, Buddha, Jesus, Mohammad - will get everything right.
The Republican Party and Evangelical Christianity may be conservative in US society, but to a lot of the world they look pretty revolutionary.
What is the ping for?
