Just a reminder: Free Republic is a conservative site. We fight for conservative principles, values and causes. We defend the Constitution. We defend our borders. We defend our God-given rights. We are opposed to the liberal/socialist/Marxist agenda for America. We do not willingly give up ground to the Marxists.
It's true that the illegal immigration issue is very discouraging, and I don't know if anyone has a solution that will appeal to conservatives and yet manage to get by Democrat obstructionism, ie, a filibuster, but I don't see that as any reason to give up everything. We should not allow it to rip us apart and destroy the movement. We fight on.
We hold the majority. We continue working as hard as we possibly can to elect as many conservatives as we possibly can. We build a conservative majority that can overcome the Democrats and the RINOs. We do not willingly give up any seats to Democrats. We add seats. Preferably, conservative seats.
I would also like to remind everyone, that Free Republic does not condone racism and does not advocate violence. We exercise our first amendment rights to free speech and peaceable assembly. We do not condemn people because of their race, religion, ethnicity, skin color, etc. We do not advocate civil war, anarchy, or an overthrow of the government. We do not advocate shooting illegals or mining the borders. We do not appreciate people coming across our borders illegally, but as conservatives, we do not issue racial epithets or threaten them with violence or bodily harm.
And, yes, we are at war. And we do support our troops and their mission. We also respect our commander-in-chief and are mindful that when people disrespect him, it hurts troop morale. We do not appreciate the mainstream media's attempts to destroy America's will to fight and we do not do anything to assist the Democrats and their accomplices in the media in their treasonous mission of undermining the war effort by providing aid and comfort to the enemy.
And despite our dissatisfaction and disappointments in regards to the illegal immigration issue, we recognize that it is not the last issue on earth and there are plenty of other reasons not to allow the Marxist Democrats to retake power.
I'll list a few issues (by no means and exhaustive list) that will be adversely affected by Marxist/Democrats in power:
Islamofascism/terrorism
National Security/Defense
The United Nations (as in their control over us)
The Supreme Court
The federal judiciary
The legislative agenda
The right to life
Marriage between one man, one woman
The family
Education
Health care
Private property
Taxation
Oil/energy
The right to keep and bear arms
The right to freedom of religion
The right to self-governance
All of our God-given rights
The Constitution
The Republic
Liberty itself
Do not get so discouraged that we give it all up. It could take generations to get it back. If ever.
"Securing the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity" is our duty.
My granny used to say, Billlly, vocal up lift, stay away from that boy, he is trash, going to end up no good, people born to hang won't die by drowning,

Well, please fight all you can. Just don't allow the Denocrats to take back the House and Senate in November. If we do, we all lose. And we lose for an awfully long time.
What makes you think those who believe evolution is responsible for the diversity of lifeforms apply an "evolutionary world-view"?
My world-view tends to the Dharma (Buddhist principles), not evolution. And I am very much a conservative.
You are wrong.
Scary thought. Thanks for the reminder, Jim.
Of course -- I never said anything to the contrary. It's that its not a "win", which is why I put that word in quotations. It's kind of like football. You'd prefer to be on offense, because that's when you score points. But there are times you play defense, and on those occasions, you want to give up as little yardage as possible. If the GOP nominee isn't good, but is better than the Dem, I'd rather have the lesser of two evils. Why is that so hard to understand?
Of course I'd rather get a real "win" by having my preferred guy win both the primary and the general election. That's when you can really advance the ball. Sometimes, it doesn't work out that way, so you vote for the guy who is going to screw you the least because that's the only choice you've got.
I agree there are occasions when a particularly bad "lesser of two evils" isn't worth supporting. Better to let the other numbskull win, screw things up, and get the guy you really want next time. I understand that, and that's how we got Reagan. A bad Dem permits us to run a more conservative Republican. But if you run a conservative Republican against a centrist Dem (definitely a dying breed), you're gonna lose most of the time. And if you pick the wrong time to fight that battle, the results can be devastating.
Had they taken the "realistic" approach they would have clearly seen that they were out-manned, out-trained, and out-supplied by British forces.
Okay, I'm going to flip your analogy around. General Washington was smart -- he knew that his army wasn't good enough to face the Brits most of the time in open battle. So he didn't fight battles he knew he couldn't win. Instead, he fought delaying and harassing actions, and bided his time until he saw opportunities to strike. And the only reason he had the ability to strike was because he preserved his force in being by not fighting unwinnable battles. Then when terrain or timing favored him, as in Princeton, Trenton, and Yorktown, he struck.
I'll repeat it again, history records that there are no great moderates or compromisers. If it does, provide a list of such historically significant leaders and I'll gladly retract the statement.
Ever heard of "The Great Compromise", without which this country would not exist? But oOkay, you wanted names. Well, here's one for you:
Rising above the interests of class and section, Washington made a strong, viable union his goal. In a very real sense, he personified the emerging spirit of nationhood in the newly independent colonies. His support for a strong central government undoubtedly reflected his military experience, both as an officer in the Virginia militia and as the commanding general of the Continental Army. Indeed, the thirteen years that Washington spent on active service-more than a quarter of his adult life-were a singular devotion to public duty by a prosperous, eighteenth-century landowner. The practical experiences provided by this lengthy military career furnished Washington with a sure grasp of the political, economic, and military advantages to be gained from an effective central government. His unwavering support of this concept, and his understanding of the importance of political compromise, were essential to the success of the Constitutional Convention.

And then there's Reagan, who knew when to cut the best deal he could, and when to stand firm.

I'm not saying that compromise is always a good thing. Many times, its bad, and you need to hold your ground. But there are other times when compromise makes perfect sense. Just because some people can't draw that distinction properly is no cause to reject compromise under all circumstances. As I said before, the "no compromise" route would have result in no tax cut at all in 2001.
Well, please fight all you can. Just don't allow the Denocrats to take back the House and Senate in November. If we do, we all lose. And we lose for an awfully long time.
Do you think he's too shy to say
VOTE REPUBLICAN ALWAYS, NO MATTER WHAT!!!!
Maybe you should scratch "rational" from you list. Almost 60% of those polled on this forum no longer attach the label conservative to the Republican Party.
We conservatives are in the middle of a war being waged on our nation state, a far more dangerous war than the WOT. And it is being waged by those holding office no matter whether they have a D or an R in front of their name.
There will be a march in D.C. on April 23rd will you be there?
Only the GOP can control that with the decisions they make. If they make decisions that do not uphold the laws and constitution of this nation they may face the consequences.
ROFLOL!
Good post indcons!

I never said that the entire Republican party was conservative, nor did I say that the behavior of the majority of Republicans in Congress were acting in a conservative manner, but of all the political parties out there, the Republican party still is the most overall conservative party, and I'm stickin' with it.
My job as a conservative Republican is to work to get the most conservative candidates out there (which I'm doing in both a Congressional race and the Governor's here in Ohio), and to stay on the phone and sending e-mails to the Republicans in Congress to get their act together, and govern conservatively.
I'm very rational.......and since I am, this will be my last post in reply to you.
(And I don't agree with leftists on anything).
"God bless America, you and yours, President Bush, all our brave troops, and reasonable and right-thinking FReepers who put their walk and $$ with their talk."
...and reasonable and right-thinking FReepers who put their walk and $$ with their talk????????????????
Well, I guess you established that you are not a practicing Christian with an unbelievable statement like that. My God tells me to pray for my enemies. You want to NOT pray for FReepers that don't agree with you?
