The socialist Soviet Union was one of the worst polluters

It's amazing the "faith" these idiots have in a system which

For the most part, todays organized "enviromentalism" is only anti capitalism.
I consider myself to be an environmentalist. That means that I'm not thrilled about drilling in ANWR but I accept it as necessity. I believe that private owners are better custodians of the environment than agencies.
China is exempted from the communist Kyoto Treaty because it's a "developing economy." HA!
My wife and I are strict vegetarians. We recycle regularly and faithfully. We do not allow hunting on our property. We are very careful not to pollute the environment. We have reserved as much of our property as possible for a wildlife habitat; we want it to be a sanctuary for wild animals. It serves as a home for deer, foxes, raccoons, possums, bobcats, et al., and we love knowing that they are protected.
However powerful "environmentalists" have done everything possible to thwart and interfere with our efforts. They have little interest in protecting the environment. Their interest is self-service and sadistic bullying.
This is now my rule of thumb:

You can thank hunters for your statement above. If not for them, you wouldn't have deer on your property. Deer, wild turkey, and many other species were close to being exterminated in the early 20th Century, and hunters lobbied Congress in the 1930s to pass the Pittman/Robertson Act, which taxes hunters equipment, and, along with hunting license fees, have been the sole funding for wildlife restoration, and for state/federal agencies to purchase wildlife refuges and other public land.
This land, and hunters' dollars, have also contributed most of the money to protect NON-GAME and endangered species -- habitat paid for by these hunters finance most wildlife habitat.
Hunters are the most effective environmentalists, they were so long before being an "environmentalist" was fashionable.
Your possums, bobcats, foxes, etc., are there because of the habitat protected by hunters' dollars. These pockets of land keep wildlife habitat available for them in a world that is fast being covered over with shopping malls and housing developments.
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and state wildlife agencies' biologists use legal hunting as a management tool to keep these wildlife populations in check and at sustainable levels. We do not live on the same planet Adam and Eve did, and anybody who thinks letting wildlife multiply without control is living in a dream world.
It's an undisputed fact -- the best, most effective environmentalists are the people who own a hunting license.
Send your Grandson a copy of "State of Fear" by Michael Crichton. Good reading, and if he's Jr or Sr. High School level, he'll like it. Crichton really puts the screws to the EnviroWackos in that one. Lots of actual footnotes for reference, eventhough it is a fictionalized story.

Can't argue with that one. We hunters are very good at "keeping our nests clean!" :)

We live in the wilderness--in The Middle of Nowhere--and we take rugged hikes every day. We also do other outdoor activities, including mountain climbing, skiing (not my wife), boat adventures, camping out, etc.
My wife, by the way, is a very serious concert musician with advanced degrees, Phi Beta Kappa, top of her class at UNC Chapel Hill. She's just about the smartest person I've ever known--and that's saying a lot because I've known, worked with, and studied with many highly intelligent people.
I checked out your web page. I'm impressed.
Some of the most beautiful places I've ever been are northern Michigan and the Canadian Rockies--notably Banf, Lake Louise, Mount Edith Cavell, the Angel Glacier, et al.!
I have also spent much time outdoors in the U.S. West--camping alone in the Colorado Rockies, the Utah national parks, the redwood forests and other beauty spots of California, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, South Dakota, et al.--Big Sur! Mount Shasta! The Sangre de Christo Mountains! I particularly love Idaho!
And also on the Southeastern Coast--especially the gorgeous coasts of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida!
And also the outdoors of Europe, Asia, and Africa! Camping out in the Himilayas! India! Nepal!
Obviously I love nature and the gorgeous planet Earth! And want their protection!
But nothing infuriates me more than some starry-eyes moron--gazing blankly at natural beauty and expounding mindless Leftist platitudes about how we must control people and support the Democrats or other odious groups to "proteccccccccccct the environnnnnnnnnnmmmmmmmmmmmetnt". Such people are stupid!

These people could not be more odious.
But then, what I am describing is Leftists in general.
A work associate who lives and works in Alaska tells me that there is no reason NOT to drill in ANWR, that the footage we see of pristine forrests is not the area being drilled and that the industrial footprint in the area will be nearly invisible.
Although the Enviro-nazis think they are changing things, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
People don't like to be preached too and that's EXACTLY what enviro-nazis do.
People love to defy authority, espeically when young. All these old crusty hippies are not in positions of authority.
