The United States did its best to keep German Morales from entering the country.
Border Patrol agents captured him, fingerprinted him, trundled him back to Mexico, over and over, until he burrowed under a border fence, survived a wild police chase and landed, with a fresh set of fake documents, in St. Paul.
Where the Minnesota economy promptly welcomed him as a new employee. And where he is still working, legally now 10 years later, as foreman of a landscaping firm that might not make it without workers like him.
The United States says "Alto!" or "Halt!" at the border, but Minnesota employers say "Bienvenidos!" or "Welcome!" once an immigrant arrives in the hiring office.
The lure of U.S. employment, offering pay many times higher than Morales could earn in his hometown of Morelia, Mexico, has long been a powerful magnet that draws workers north to clean our offices, lay sod in our new suburbs, butcher hogs for our table, clamber up on our roofs and wash dishes in our finer restaurants.
But now, as federal and state officials, including Gov. Tim Pawlenty and the Minnesota Legislature, discuss whether to crack down on or welcome illegal workers, the system has all but given up trying to keep them out of the workplace.

And the way to handle THIS kind of recidivism is a "two-strikes" law. Make the second illegal entry by the same person a felony punishable by ten years AT HARD LABOR in the Arizona desert, with deportation at the end.
"...but Minnesota employers say "Bienvenidos!" or "Welcome!" once an immigrant arrives in the hiring office."
And any business found hiring an illegal should be fined $1000/day/illegal.
Document at the border, and let them in.
So much for hiding in the shadows. This kid even gave his name and let his pic be taken.
When would that stop at 90 million???

An Alabama employment agency that sent 70 laborers and construction workers to job sites in that state in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina says the men were sent home after just two weeks on the job by employers who told them "the Mexicans had arrived" and were willing to work for less.
Linda Swope, who operates Complete Employment Services Inc. in Mobile, Ala., told The Washington Times last week that the workers -- whom she described as U.S. citizens, residents of Alabama and predominantly black -- had been "urgently requested" by contractors hired to rebuild and clear devastated areas of the state, but were told to leave three job sites when the foreign workers showed up.
"After Katrina, our company had 70 workers on the job the first day, but the companies decided they didn't need them anymore because the Mexicans had arrived," Mrs. Swope said. "I assure you it is not true that Americans don't want to work.........

You people who live in small town America, in the heartland think it is just the problem of the border states. But the illegals are in your town, they do not obey your laws, they don't want to be one of you they hate you and your birthright.
if we can shut down money wire transfers operations funding terrorist nations, why can't we at least impose a 25% tax on US dollars wired to MX to help fund our border fence?
