Immigration rally planned in Toledo By Carl Chancellor and Colette M. Jenkins Beacon Journal staff writers
Ohio's protests over proposed changes to federal policies involving immigration rules have been relatively small compared to those in other states.
But that could change next week when a rally in support of immigrants' rights is held at Toledo's Golden Rule Park.
Beatriz Maya of the Farm Labor Organizing Committee, a Toledo-based union representing more than 10,000 migrant farm workers mainly in Ohio, Michigan and North Carolina, said the noon rally is being dubbed March for Justice.
Sister Rita Mary Harwood of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland said federal lawmakers need to adopt legislation that will give migrant workers a chance to legally stay in the United States with an opportunity for citizenship.
``They're contributing to the economy, and they are paying taxes. They're not getting a free ride,'' said Harwood. ``These are people who are taking great risks because they want to feed their families.''
Harwood's office of parish life and development includes ministry to migrants and refugees.
Some estimates put the number of undocumented workers -- from countries such as Mexico, Honduras and Nicaragua -- as high as 190,000 in Ohio alone.
Ohio's migrant workers are employed at places such as dairy farms, construction sites and meat-processing plants.
Anyone from the Toledo area know of COUNTER protest organizations for this rally or plan to attend?

Thats very dangerous for Americans to do during their massive demonstrations.
They attacked Citizens here in Dallas during one of their takeovers of this city.
The "came in peace" (BS!)100's of thousands are taking over cities and no one cares. They are doing it again and again and Americans are in some sort of malaise about it.
What's it going to take till ALL AMERICANS wake up and smell the Starbucks?
And demand our politicians listen to OUR DEMANDS NOT theirs!!
Some video footage might help.
I truly hope you are right because this is a crisis and no one cares.
Thank you martin! I am disabled but may try to make it to the park, or, at least drive my car around with some kind of NO AMNESTY sign. Wishing I had a video camera, but I may be able to get some snapshots.
I just called the Farm Labor Organizing people here in Toledo. The call was answered in Spanish and I had to request them to speak in English! I left a 'nice' message for the woman quoted in the article.
Unfreeking believable.
I would soften my stance a little IF the border was secure and NO more could get in illegally. We need a wall ASAP.
Don't forget to mention the usual "willing employers" who are forced to hire the "willing workers" because there are "jobs that the Americans won't do.".
Ohio's migrant workers illegal aliens are employed at places such as dairy farms, construction sites and meat-processing plants.
Boycott food, no one is stopping you.
It's not an "IMMIGRATION RALLY" but an "ILLEGAL ALIEN RALLY"
I must admit that I was, and still am, very unfamiliar with the issue of illegal immigration, but what I am learning very quickly here is that what we seem to be up against, if you are against amnesty, are not the illegals and their supporters you see marching in the rallys. It's the UNIONS.
Here's what I could find on the Organizing Committee for this Rally which is definitely AFL/CIO, but from what I can find, MAY be a part of the National Labor Federation started by Gino Parente, founder of the PROVISIONAL COMMUNIST PARTY. If anyone has any definite information showing a connection, please post.
*note* while interviewing someone this morning on Fox, Brian asked the guest if the organizing group for the Baltimore rally wasn't a communist front organization.*

(excerpt)
"One of the most moving moments in FLOC's struggle was during the 1983 march on Campbell Soup. A mass for the farmworkers was held at the Camden Catholic cathedral, where about FIFTEEN PRIESTS WASHED THE FEET OF THE MARCHERS! The moral force of this event was a great encouragement to the farmworkers and to their supporters
In February 1986, after two years of on-and-off talks and a "corporate campaign", FLOC, Campbell Soup, and Campbell's tomato and pickle growers in Ohio and Michigan signed a historic three-way labor contract. Elections were on farms supplying Campbell, and over 3,100 farmworkers signed on with FLOC. These workers were guaranteed union recognition, with an equal voice in negotiating their wages and working conditions. All workers were now clearly classified as paid employees with guaranteed minimum earnings and a system of incentive payments for higher yields, full prior disclosure of conditions of employment was provided, a full itemized written report of all earnings and expenses, full coverage for workers compensation, unemployment compensation, and Social Security benefits"..........................
You're absolutely right.
I will simply be amazed if all of the rallies throughout the country, considering the sheer numbers expected to participate, remain peaceful. I don't think law enforcement could handle it. Could they?
At the massive demonstration in Dallas the demonstrators threw bottles at CITIZENS!
The demonstrators in obscene numbers have taken over our cities, our streets and soon our country and we are allowing them to, Do NOT COMPROMISE!
Don't these people have jobs!?
