Arrival of aliens ousts U.S. workers
Washington Times ^ | 04-10-06 | Jerry Seper

Posted on 04/10/2006 4:31:56 AM PDT by Klickitat

An Alabama employment agency that sent 70 laborers and construction workers to job sites in that state in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina says the men were sent home after just two weeks on the job by employers who told them "the Mexicans had arrived" and were willing to work for less.

Linda Swope, who operates Complete Employment Services Inc. in Mobile, Ala., told The Washington Times last week that the workers -- whom she described as U.S. citizens, residents of Alabama and predominantly black -- had been "urgently requested" by contractors hired to rebuild and clear devastated areas of the state, but were told to leave three job sites when the foreign workers showed up.

"After Katrina, our company had 70 workers on the job the first day, but the companies decided they didn't need them anymore because the Mexicans had arrived," Mrs. Swope said. "I assure you it is not true that Americans don't want to work.

"We had been told that 270 jobs might be available, and we could have filled every one of them with men from this area, most of whom lost their jobs because of the hurricane," she said. "When we told the guys they would not be needed, they actually cried ... and we cried with them. This is a shame."

I agree that the political class would not necessarily reduce taxes if the illegals were suddenly to disappear. However, if the number of illegals continue to increase, even the threat of defeating the big spenders will be gone. For the Democratic and RINO leadership, continuance of high rates of immigration will ensure that conservatism will be a permanent minority position in America. Then the United States will become more like the socialistic democracies of Western Europe. From there, a North American Union can be accomplished.

Unless uncontrolled immigration is stopped, and soon, kiss America goodbye!

I wonder if we aren't throwing away difficult cases which could be productive by seizing on seemingly easy illegals. I say that knowing full well that people have to want to help themselves. I am not opposed to putting prisoners to work doing the work Americans won't do, for instance.

Well until there is bill that guarantees a that every native American has a right to a decent paying job, this argument is bunk.

There is however a law that says you have to hire only people that are legally allowed to work in the US. You have to fill out an I-9 and show proof of SS card, green card or other legal ability to work in the US. Of course, you guys on that side of the argument just like to pick and choose which laws you will obey. I guess because you're more special than the rest you don't have to obey laws of the US.

Dane almost everyone on these boards is well aware you are the mouthpiece for imported slave labor.

And, Gary, some of us know you support Putin and Russia more than Bush and the USA. At least that is the way it seems to me. You and others on this thread seem to travel in wolf packs just to attack Bush and sing the praises of "democratic" Russia.

I believe this story and believe there are many others like it. GO AFTER THE EMPLOYERS OF ILLEGALS,

That won't work in this instance. For employers in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi, DHS temporarily suspended them from having to check for ID, green cards, etc. Also, in the areas hit by Katrina Bush temporarily suspended the Davis-Bacon Act so local contractors don't have to pay "prevailing" wages.

Firstly, I am a Republican committeeman, and I craweled across broken glass to get Bush elected in 2000 and 2004. I also contributed the maxamium amounts in the primaries and general elections to Bush's campaighn. I am hardly anti-Bush. I am strongly anti-illegal immigrant.

Secondly, I served on a Special Forces A-Team during Nam for six years. Have you served America?

Thirdly, I would NEVER serve in Russia's armed forces. I do however keep up on the news out of Russia, and know the difference between lies and truth, which you do not. My wife and I have a second home there. BTW, my wife is a Patrick Henry American. I say that, because for months prior to her naturalization she went around saying, "Just give me liberty or give me death."

Fourthly, are you willing to call individuals like Major Ron Hamilton, US Army Military Intelligence, and Dan Darling with the Manhattan Institute traitors? They both share my views of Russia. Russia is not perfect by any means, but neither is she any longer a communist country as conspiracy theorists like yourself who have never been to Russia like to imagine.

Finally, Condeelza Rice has stated, "there is a considerable amount of individual freedom" in Russia nowadays," and as a Soviet expert she stated Russia bears no resemblance to the Soviet Union. Now, you are an expert in what?

I am so close to favoring impeachment.

As you always have been.

I'll swear, I don't know why you even comment on Bush. Everybody knows how negative you have always been about him.

And now, you're acting as if you're grudgingly favoring ousting him from office.

What a phony!

Ok. Please explain this to me:

After the details of 9/11 were known, it became obvious that our broken immigration system largely contributed to the beasts being still in the country.

Not only was a crackdown not proposed, but Arbusto, by his pronouncements, actually encouraged more illegal immigration in to this country by making promises of amnesty and sending the message that he would do nothing about enforcing the law in this area.

Now, fast forward a few years, he still continues his globalist garbage and we have literally millions of foreigners in the streets demanding amensty. Who created that expectation? Who helped foster a climate of lawlessness by calling our own citizens who care about this vigilantes?

GWB really liked it when the Swift Boat guys took matters into their own hands and did the dirty work he would not do, but not now????

WTF good is it to be securing the Iraq/Syria border without enforcing our own?

He has become an embarassment at best and is showing his allegiances. They are not to the average taxpayer who voted him in office in the first place.

That is a lie. These Mexicans are doing the work Americans simply won't do. Ask the WH for their talking points in defense of the free traitors.

Julia Reed of Vogue Magazine (a free traitor) was interviewed on MSNBC over the weekend. She said the millions of illegal immigrants do not effect working Americans one bit. I believe what I hear on TV, not these made up stories about Mexicans supposedly taking American jobs from supposedly hard working Americans.

The United States implemented our failed American "border security" policy in Iraq. That is probably why all the foreign terrorists were able to make it into Iraq.

We did not send enough troops into Iraq to secure the borders. Sound familiar, right?

MB, don't you just love it when people from behind a keyboard with no experience tell you how to run your business.

That is the way it used to be. Construction jobs paid middle class wages. Drive wages down and you will lose many hard working responsible people who want to raise a family, own their house, etc.

"You are a native born American, how come you are not doing construction or picking vegetables."

The sad truth is that even if you want an entry level construction job you can't get it if you don't speak Spanish.

Actually, I'd like to know if the article is true. Did they turn away others to give the jobs to illegal aliens?

I believe this story and believe there are many others like it.

These things ARE happening. A friend in North Carolina told me she talked with a black man who is very angry because he works in construction and was paid decently but they let him go suddenly. He said they were hiring illegals at half the wage.
