We don't need to concentrate just on Oil prices, the shift of Mexican Politics will be a larger issue (that will also dramatically influence Oil prices).
We on this forum do need to step back and view this from a much wider perspective.

I think your guess is right on. There no reason for our Ambassador to organize protests. He's outnumbered considerably by Chavez's thugs.

When gasoline hits $3.00 per gallon, we're still going to hear about how the oil companies exploit us and we will hear nothing about this weasel dictator in Venezuela.

yeah beyond that there is undoubtedly other people to do something like that.
An ambassador is WAY to high up for something like that. Too visible.
My guess is that Hugo thinks he is losing control and the US Ambassador was a convienent target.

One of his citizen/s tried to assassinate him in the last couple of days. Of course, W was blamed for it. So he's continuing his wage against this attempt by saying he'll expel our US Ambassador. Nothing more than a smoke screen attempting to cover up the masses/majority of his citizens against/major discontent of this dictator, IMHO.

I think it might be a bit too early for that.
But I don't think we should allow this to go without comment or action.
Although I'd bet that something doesn't happen until tomorrow or Tuesday. Just to show Hugo how insignificant he is to us or something.

Roto Reuters story..
CARACAS, Venezuela (Reuters) - Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez on Sunday threatened to expel the US ambassador to Caracas after accusing him of provoking a recent protest during which demonstrators lobbed fruit at the envoy's car and chased him on motorbikes.
"Start packing your bags Mister, if you keep on provoking us, start packing you bags, because I'll kick you out of here," Chavez said on his regular Sunday television program.

I wonder what that statement sounded like in Spanish, assuming that is a direct quote.

Everytime we ignore this tin horn dictator, he throws another tantrum.
¡Soy importante!
-
That's clearly at the root of our current relationship with Venezuela.
Can't decide whether that means we're doing exactly the right thing - with what's evidently a formal unspoken US policy of benign neglect of (all) Latin America - or doing exactly the wrong thing by the policy, which amounts to a complete abrogation of the Monroe Doctrine.
Perhaps someone knows what they're doing.
(it's always possible)
