PD, based on 2002 Census Bureau studies, illegal immigrants currently cost the country $10 billion more in services than they pay into the system.

A new study from the Center for Immigration Studies is one of the first to estimate the impact of illegal immigration on the federal budget. Based on Census Bureau data, the study estimates that households headed by illegal aliens used $10 billion more in government services than they paid in taxes in 2002. These figures are only for the federal government; costs at the state and local level are also likely to be significant. The study also finds that if illegals were given amnesty, the fiscal deficit at the federal level would grow to nearly $29 billion.

Thanks, Babbah. I will take a look at it later today. I am going to have to yield the computer to my husband pretty soon, so I don't want to get started only to have to quit.

I feel like I'm living in an alternative universe.

In May, 2003 Wilson started anonymously "shopping" his re-written history to the NYT and WaPo. He went public a few weeks later with his NYT op-ed. (Much the same course taken by the White House when they released the NIE information). To the MSM: Wilson's a whistleblower, the WH leaks.

Two of Wilson's assertions got major traction: He was dispatched to Niger by Cheney and he found no contact between Iraq & Niger. (He claims he never made the Cheney charge, but it was in the headlines for weeks and Wilson, in his MANY TV appearances, never tried to correct it.)

The NIE information (as well as several investigations) revealed that Wilson lied about what he found...he had found the exact opposite of what he was now claiming. And rather than being sent by Cheney, he was sent by his wife.

But WHO is the villain here? Why, the people who told the truth about Wilson!

It's so upside down! It almost gives me vertigo thinking about it.

Losers never get to replay. Gore & Kerry may dream all they want, but will never be nominated. But please let them keep talking and ranting and talking and ranting. Then let Mother Sheehan and Bahbrah and Alex talk and rant and say the same things. The MSM are making them out to be the "heroes". Maybe the "real people" of this country will realize that they are no longer the dem "kook fringe", but the mainstream dem pols. When past POTUS and Veeps start sounding like the kooks people will wake up.

According to boobs like Couric and Kerry, the Iraqi police are too incompetent to do anything by themselves..

Kerry is too incompetent to do anything by himself. Even with a bevy of aides and talking points, he flip-flops on every issue and demonstrates that inconsistency is his one consistent trait. He is a laughing stock and interviews like this will be shown and laughed at if he manages to become the nominee again.

I've jumped in reading the thread here because I think Meet the Press is over in most parts of the country by now and I won't have to read about how insane and inconsistent Kerry is. Just seeing his name in print gives me the willies.

Jveritas, I want to take this time to thank you again for being such a national treasure and translating so many of those documents. I know it takes a great deal of time and your love for our country is deeply appreciated. I've thanked you many times previously, but I am not sure that many freepers know what a national service you are providing.

Sen Kyl, on Late Edition just gave Wolf a lesson on yellowcake, Joe Wilson, "leaks", British Intelligence, etc.

He stated just because the US could not prove the British wrong or right on the yellowcake story did NOT mean British intelligence was wrong at all.

Wolf seemed a bit taken aback that Sen Kyl disagreed with the Joe Wilson version of the yellowcake story and the famed "16 words" in the SOTU. Hope some of you caught it.

I heard Kerry last week talking about the Vietnam Wall, and how "half of those names were put up there AFTER we realized we couldn't win the war"...and then went on to say that he doesn't want that to happen again...

I posted that day, and will again post...that it was partly HIS fault those names were up there..because he spoke in front of a Congress that was EAGER to find a reason to cut and run.,..and the ENEMY saw that they felt that way...and fought on, when they would most likely have quit...

Pukin...I don't know if that is the "wall remark" that you were referring to earlier in the thread...but, I couldn't stomach watching Kerry again today, on any of his THREE appearances.

I don't know it was him. I am at work. The guy on the Radio for the Northern Alliance wasn't dismissive. He always sounds like that. I personally do not care for him. He and I have had a few exchanges. I think he resents having info second hand. If it were his scoop, it would be a big deal

"I would love to see that it sound so beautiful a real live Bambi"

I'll take some pictures of the herds of deer and antelope I get around here and post 'em.

Pretty, but they sure eat a lot of my neighbors' livestock feed and have the bad habit of running out in roads in front of fast-moving vehicles. (WILL NOT post pictures of road kill.)

I am aware of the Census data, and it does not take into account the overall economic impact of their presence among us. There is no measurement of the labor costs to those that employ them, in comparison to what those employers would pay if they paid the minimum wage, or what those employers would do to compensate for that impact, either in higher prices, higher government subsidies, and the snowball economic effect of higher costs in every economic sector, in addition to higher taxes on all of us.

I've been reading each one of the translations by national treasure, jveritas, and sending them to a dozen media outlets. With darned little result, sadly. The administration is strangely silent about these translations and they are probably the only people who can give the documents the national attention they deserve.

I appreciate your effort.

Have any of the conservative talk shows covered the documents?

That would be the place to get traction.

ask talking heads about expense of illegals considering our deficit

They don't even buy that!

I had an exchange with Tony Snow the other day about the net cost after considering everything was at least 10 billion to the country, its hard to document.

Well- I don't have to be an economic genius to understand that the when Mexico's #1 import is money that is sent to them by those earning that money here- would have a tremendously WONDERFUL impact on our economy if those dollars were spent buying goods and services HERE! Creating MORE JOBS, etc..

Not to mention the fact that all the working under the table being stopped would add to the tax coffers, help bring pathetic wages up for hard working Americans...and the benefits of cracking down on businesses paying under the table would do for reducing welfare.

People not only abuse the system with the under the table money- but working right along those illegals are DEAD BEAT DADS! They avoid paying support because Child Support Enforcement cannot track them. let alone garnish their check. Do you have ANY idea how many women and children are on welfare due to not receiving ANY CHILD SUPPORT?

I don't buy that ILLEGAL immigrants help our economy.... at least not in any way that doesn't resemble the plantation format of slave labor....

Deport them as you find them....

anyone sending money out of the country should have to pass a background check--- YES- even the BIG SHOTS with off chore accounts....(I admit- there may be a slim chance to enforce this thought- but dang- we gotta come up with some ideas...)

The best place to begin to look, is at Farm subsidies. Especially in the areas of Corn(Ethanol)Wheat and Dairy products. If you know how much our government pays farms (directly from your pocket) to either under-produce, or keep prices down, you would scream out loud.

Then, just consider all of these costs rising at a rate of 25% yearly for the next 10 years. When I talk about $5 heads of lettuce, I am not joking.
