CNN Flub: President Bush Authorized Valerie Plame Leak

CNN initially reported on Thursday that newly released court documents covering Scooter Libby's testimony showed that President Bush personally authorized the leak of CIA employee Valerie Plame's name to the press.

Here's how CNN broke their bogus bombshell:

CNN's JIM CLANCY: "A major story breaking now out of Washington right now. According to court papers that were filed by prosecutors, I. Lewis Libby, Scooter Libby, who was a key man in the office of Vice President Dick Cheney, has alleged that U.S. President George W. Bush was the man who authorized the leaking of the name of a CIA operative and the wife of a former ambassador.

"Now - that former CIA operator, Valerie Plame, was unmasked to journalists." [END EXCERPT]

In fact, the so-called leak authorized by Bush had nothing to do with Plame - but instead covered Iraq war intelligence that was mostly already in the public domain.

CNN eventually realized its error and issued an on-air correction, forcing liberals coast-to-coast to cancel their planned impeachment parties.

I know the President has the authority to declassify information, but does he have the authority to "blow the clover" of a CIA official that is in the US? I don't believe Plame was covert anyhow, just wondering.

ho hum, just another daily case of the MSM routinely reporting what they wish would happen instead of what actually happens, a little prelude of what's in store when the katy couric variety show begins.

LOL...When Katy starts reporting, it's going to turn what little credibility they had into comedy hour.

All classification starts with the Commander-in-Chief and declassification authority must be at or above the level of the classifying authority.

Good thing you don't believe Plame was covert, otherwise you would sound like a troll.

"...but does he have the authority to "blow the clover" of a CIA official..."

Yes, he does, but only if it's a four-leaf clover.  LOL

No, CNN only wished of what was supposed to happen. In other words, they were and still are delusional.

Everyone in Plame's neighborhood knew she worked as an analyst at the CIA ... not a field agent but a desk jockey.

Intentional Misrepresentation.

Put the error in 10 foot letters and the correction in 2 pts.

I find it incomprehensible that CNN does NOT understand that the "VALERIE PLAME LEAK INVESTIGATION" does NOT exist. No charges have been brought against ANYONE, including Scooter Libby, about the "VALERIE PLAME LEAK INVESTIGATION".

It just so happens that every news organization, including FNC, seem to think so and report anything about LIBBY or the IC as such.

The MSM and every NEWS organization on CABLE should hang their heads in shame the way they have reported this NON-STORY. Plame was NOT undercover, therefore she could NOT be OUTED, and the IC has charged no one with that crime and has said so.

He is NO LONGER even pursuing the alleged outing!! The IC is now consumed with the PERJURY indictment of Scooter Libby and is doing everything he can to STOP Scooter from defending himself.

I figured I might get flamed on that even after I tried to qualify it, oh well. :-)

not a troll, just wondering if the President has the power to do that, put plame aside. Could he do it to someone else? I think he does have that power, since he can declassify information and such.
