You left out the part about saying prayers before the ZOT.

I still don't know how to go between the different subscrition deals.. I like the old format. Anyway, you forgot to post that it is against the rules to post a thread about a female teacher/male student unless there is an accompanying pic of the teacher.

Some more items to consider:
- Do not excerpt an article unless necessary. Some times the article gets pulled off the original site and the post here on FR is the only copy.
- If possible, link to the "printer friendly" version of the article. Those of us stuck in 56K dialup HELL appreciate this as the printer friendly version is usually not as graphic intense.
Thanks!

I sent a rather blunt email to Diane Feinstein last night which I posted on FR and have just received a reply from her which I'd also like to post. My question is since the original thread is now pages back should I still post it there?

There are some blogs out there worthy of news, like Little Green Footballs. Can I ask about this topic? I agree with this sentence -- most blogs aren't great, and we don't want them cluttering up the main page.
And on the other hand, a few of them are much better and much more important than anything in the MSM. Michael Yon's blog comes to mind. So does "The Belmont Club" by our own Wretchard.
So if I want to post something from one of these top-quality blogs, does it make sense to do it in News/Activism?

I post editorials from the
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review almost every week. The Trib requires excerpting and linking.
Here's the rub, most Trib editorials are under 300 words and excerpting guidelines allow up to 300 words.
When posting, I drop a sentence or two and post the remainder of the editorial as an excerpt.
Usually this seems to satisfy the moderators, but on one or two occasions my post has been altered by a moderator to an "auto excerpt" which leaves one or two random paragraphs as the final post.
Is this a "grey" area or do you have a preference that I should conform to?
:)

Bears Repeating:
Activism/Chapters - Activism, protests, news and business of Free Republic Chapters. Freep this poll should be placed in vanity. General news stories about activism should be place in news. After action reports from Freeps are allowed here.
Not your emails, your phone calls, your letters to the editor, your screamfest with co-workers, your WOD threads or your WOT threads or your random thought(s) that'll probably be chatted anyway.

Regarding the bitchy newspapers, I hate giving hits to papers like the
Tennessean, who won't even let us excerpt. Sometimes, though, they're the only ones carrying a story that I've already classified (in my own mind) as newsworthy.
That's my biggest concern with the sale of Knight-Ridder. McClatchy does allow excerpting, but they're not keeping all the papers, including my local paper. Lord help us if Gannett ends up with a fresh bunch of papers.

Thank you. As a newbie, though getting better at posting and some basic HTML, all the information was noted and this page link added to my browser favorites. I'm not sure how to "bookmark" on FR yet.
Because the Iran keyword link disappeared today (later put back by Admin) I learned how to search using the "keyword" drop down search menu option. Finding out everything I need to know does seem to depend on "experience" over time.
Some of us still need all the help we can get. :-))

Thanks for this. I've been around here for several years, but I didn't know the difference between "Extended" and "Front Page" news until reading this.
Thanks again.
