WASHINGTON - Putting aside party differences, Senate Republicans and Democrats coalesced Thursday around compromise legislation that holds out the hope of citizenship to an estimated 11 million immigrants living in the United States unlawfully.

"We can no longer afford to delay reform," said Republican Sens. John McCain and Edward M. Kennedy in a statement that capped weeks of struggle to find common ground. [TRANSLATION: Amnesty and a path to citizenship for 11 million illegal aliens]

I don't accept your premise.

Of course you don't.

A slap in the face for those who played by the rules, waited in line for years, went through medical checks to ensure they don't bring diseases like TB and polio (which are making a comeback) into the country, and secured sponsors to ensure they are never on the public dole.

Just sent my corrupt dem congressman a piece of my mind here in NJ..Last time I got a form letter back from him . I mentioned that that was an insult to me as well..NJ taxpayers pay the highest car insurance in the world .Why ? Because of all the illegals here driving without insurance (or a license for that matter ) come to Union City NJ someday and tell me what country you think you're in .

What I want to know is,what is the difference in the new amnesty bill and the 1986 one,how do they propose to enforce the new one, when they couldn't the old one?

The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA) was enacted by Congress in response to the large and rapidly growing illegal alien population in the United States. The final bill was the result of a dramatic compromise between those who wanted to reduce illegal immigration into the United States and those who wanted to "wipe the slate clean" for those illegals already living here by granting them legal residence. As enacted, IRCA included a massive amnesty program for two main categories of illegal aliens:

1) those who could show that they had resided illegally in the United States continuously since at least January 1, 1982; and

2) those who had worked as agricultural workers for at least 90 days between May 1, 1985 and May 1, 1986.

As a "balance" to this huge amnesty, IRCA also included several provisions designed to: strengthen the enforcement of immigration laws (including sanctions for employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens); increase border controls; and create a program to verify the immigration status of aliens applying for certain welfare benefits.

"The Republic is dying"

You're right. The Country is falling apart as we are watching. It's happening much quicker than I ever thought it would. I thought for a long time that we Conservatives were engaging in a Counter-Revolution. It now looks like we were merely fighting a rear-guard action.
My advice is to Lock & Load and buckle your chin strap because it's on the verge of hitting the fan.

Hitlery might win because we don't have a candidate. Mc Cain and Rudy won't get my vote.

Have you already forgotten Our Glorious Leader's recent words? "Bush, Clinton; Bush, Clinton."

Remember, he comes to us from.... Baseball!

One team wins one game, another team wins another game, but at the end of the day... and at the end of the season, it's all Baseball!

The main thing is to keep the marks coming in, rooting for "their" team, and PAYING!

Keep up that notion of "team loyalty", and it'll pay off bigtime! But if ever.. if ever the fools figure it out, and realize that "Major League Baseball" is a business, and the different "teams" are merely "branch offices"... well, you can kiss those ticket sales goodbye. And commercial sponsorships, etc. The whole GAME goes down the crapper. So, keep the morons all hyped up over "their" teams. Make them want "their" team to win. Above all, make them think it MATTERS if "their" team wins.

And remember -- if ONE team keeps winning, there's no more suspense! Lose the suspense, and you lose the interest -- and lose the interest, and you lose the business!

Gotta hope that it's always a "close" match. The closer, the better. And, gotta hope that every now and then, the "wrong" side wins, just to keep YOUR "fans" hyped up.

Hey, it's not like it's gonna cost Major League Baseball Politics anything when one side wins over the other. Someone has to win, someone has to lose, la dee da. Main thing is to keep the fans believing it matters WHO wins!

Bush, Clinton; Bush, Clinton....

Call them - let them hear the anger in your voice. Then do it again.

Yeah, brilliant idea.

What a fantastic way to make it to the top of the "crank" list, with a "Possibly Dangerous" star next to your name!

Be nice to strangers in suits when they knock on your door...

You don't round them up , you arrest anyone who hires them . You take away the freebees and they will deport themselves.

You do realize a large number if not most have fake documents. So now employers are supposed to do the INS's job as well ? AHH a "modern conservative" who believes in more regulation are you ?

Advance Copy: "No Illegal Left Behind"...LOL! Brilliant.

Wardaddy & TN Freepers: Phil Valentine was going off about this - I overheard him on someone's radio while reading "Victory For Immigrants" in Lebanon's Latino newspaper. Yessiree, they are gloating and calling their families to tell them to start packing.

That people on this forum entertain the thought that Bush would pick up the veto pen (which he's never used) to shoot down the act that he's been pushing for since his first campaign...that bot koolaid must be extremely intoxicating stuff. I reiterate that no man is perfect and only fools blindly worship and trust other mortals without question.

These fools are not only putting party politics above national interest, they are willing to destroy the country if that's what it takes to "beat the Democrats". Not too unlike the Roman conflict between their Senate and the Empire faction. That turned out well (not).

While I'm fairly certain the House will have another crack at this I agree that we citizens should make a public spectacle since our politicos seem to have such high regard for mob tactics - "A Day Without an American".

This entire Bill sucks!
This Republican Senate/Congress, & this Republican President have failed. Here's how they score on the major issues:
Education: Largest spending increase ever = Fail
Madicare Drug Plan: Largest Socialist Program ever = Fail
Campaign Finance Reform: Biggest Free speech gag = Fail
Taxes Reduction: Very nice = Pass
War on Terror: Good to kick "it" where needed = Pass
Emminent domain Restrictions.Impotent failure to act = Fail
Immigration Reform. The whole Damn Bill is LIBERAL. = Fail

Results: Republicans represented a score of 2 out of 7 on the major bills since 2000 for their constituents. What the hell is their problem??? I can't take it anymore. The RNC is cut off from my wallet and I suggest everyone here do the same. The only way we can beat this is to donate directly to the candidates themselves. The RNC is supposed to represent a Republican agenda. But, when they are in the majority and fail this bad, screw them. It is obvious that my voice, and my countrymen can no longer be represented by the RNC.
