NEW YORK - A day after Katie Couric announced she was leaving for CBS, NBC has chosen Meredith Vieira as Matt Lauers new partner on the Today show. NBC scheduled a news conference for Thursday afternoon to announce its new Today host, and confirmed in a statement that Vieira had been selected. Meredith's vast experience as an award-winning journalist, as well as talk show host, make her the ideal candidate for this job, said network CEO Jeff Zucker.

Don't know anything about her politics, but she's very easy on the eyes, IMO.
She protested the Iraq War. Shocking that they hired another liberal, I know. ;-)
I recall watching her on WABC in the 70's. She played the street tough reporter in answer to geraldo on the NY news scene
There is still something there
Politics or not - were it a looks contest, my vote goes to the ladies on CBS morning, however.

I'd rather get my hard news from Chuck Woolery or Wink Martindale, thanks.
SSDD.
She seems a little long in the tooth to be starting now.
Where's Jesse? Where's Al? Where's Cynthia and The NAACP?
She's a rabid liberal!
She's married to Richard Cohen of the Washington Post.
I don't think it's the same Richard Cohen. Meredith's husband is in a wheelchair, and he wrote a book about his MS.
Wink could use his '60's hit, "Deck of Cards" as his theme music.

Many thanks, katieanna. Seems as if Viera, if anything, is even MORE blatantly liberal than Couric. So it looks like I'll continue to have a 'job' here at FR ;-)
Two different Richard Cohens.
Her husband is Richard Cohen who wrote the book "Blindsided" about his Multiple Sclerosis...he is a CBS journalist and producer.
The Richard Cohen who is a WP op ed writer is a different person.
Here's some links to pictures of the two, they are definitely different men.

I am curious to the responses of Hannity, Coulter and Ingraham - didn't they all kinda get into it with Viera on "The View"?
Thanks for setting me straight on this, as I never understood what she could've possibly seen in the WP Richard Cohen.
I do seem to recall Hannity saying that he had had "words" with Vieira, but, to tell you the truth, I don't like the View.
I hate her voice!
