I already read it at Dan Simmons' site. This little tract scares me more than any Stephen King novel could ever manage.

I give you an Asian world in chaos, a Pacific rim ruled by China after the vacuum of Americas withdrawal this nations full resources devoted to fighting, and possibly losing, the Century War a South America and Mexico lost to corruption and appeasement, a resurgent Russian Empire that has reclaimed its old dominated republics and more, and a Canada split into three hateful nations. Seems I have read this before and that pic above looks familiar too.....:o)

He makes good points about the importance of knowing history, and about the "war on terrorism" being like a "war on aviation".
But our enemy is not all of Islam, but a small part of it.
That small part would like nothing better than to make this a war on all of Islam. So they agitate Muslims against us, and us against Muslims.
Fortunately, our current leaders are too smart to fall for that.

He describes the future I think we must nuke Mecca to avoid. They must submit to us or we will be forced to submit to them. Have we enough confidence in the goodness of our civilizaton that we are willing to make the hard decisions necessary to continue it? Or shall we default our posterity to the hell-on-earth that will be life under the sword of the Global Caliphate?

FReepin Incredible! I have always been fascinated by the idea of traveling back in time and knowing what I know now. I'm not sure I would want to know the future.

WOW. Un-effin-believable. This guy has encapsulated, with sobering detail and a great deal of historical reflection, upon the very fears I have harbored for a number of years.
Strictly from a literary point of view, the style reminds me of some of 1950s Isaac Asimov.
About "the last three words" .... has anyone figured them out? Should it be apparent from the story context what they are? Granted, I haven't had my caffeine yet today -- I'll definitely re-read this later.
