Non-Citizens Expected to Get Voting Rights in NYC
NewsMax ^ | April 5, 2006 | Carl Limbacher

Legislation granting non-citizens the right to vote is expected to pass in New York City this year, immigration rights advocates tell the Amsterdam News.

"We’re very excited and very optimistic that this will pass," New York City Councilman Charles Barron said at a recent press briefing. "We see this as the historical launching of something that should have happened a long time ago," the outspoken Democrat added.

Dubbed the "Voting Rights Restoration Act," the measure would permit immigrants who have a green card to vote in municipal elections, including for mayor, comptroller and city council, after having lived in the city for six months.

The New York Coalition to Expand Voting Rights sees the measure being extended one day to state and even federal elections. "There is nothing in either the U.S. or the New York State Constitution that prevents us from expanding the franchise to include non-citizen residents," a spokesman for the group argued in January.

Story Continues Below

Advocates claim that 22 states and federal territories allowed non-citizen voting during the 18th and 19th centuries. In New York, non-citizen residents were denied the right to vote in 1804. According to the Caribbean news service, Heartbeat News, the measure's impact on New York City elections would be substantial, adding up to 1.5 million voters to rolls. Most of the new voters, experts predict, would cast their ballots for Democrats.

While New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has voiced opposition to the proposal, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn told the Amsterdam News that she's "open to talking about passage."

In a statement issued by her office, City Council Member Melissa Mark Viverito praised the measure, explaining:

"East Harlem, Mott Haven and the Upper West Side are home to at least 25 thousand non-citizens of voting age who contribute in countless ways to the economic, social and cultural vitality of District 8 and NYC as a whole. Unfortunately they are not allowed to directly participate in choosing the municipal representatives who make the policies that affect their daily lives."

If he claims something is going to happen, assume the opposite.

Maybe..maybe.

But...I wouldn't be surprised to see this "movement" gain traction.

Political power. That's what it's all about.

We don’t need an ‘immigration’ bill. We need and want a border security and illegal aliens bill. An immigration/guest worker bill can come after that is done.

This is not about workers rights or fair immigration policies. It has to do with international communist/socialist orgs looking to gain the political upperhand in the U.S..

Posted by JeffHead Jeff links to Mexica.org's 'after protest' pic fest. You can see there what the marchers thought they were marching for.

A poster for Friday’s march. March 31. This poster lists the Latino orgs that are promoting the protests. They are all communist/socialist front orgs.

Here is my analysis of what is going on behind the scenes.

Here is some evidence that 'amnesty' increases illegal entries. These people knew before the demonstrations that the time was ripe.

Smith Act of 1940 This is the U.S. statute that ought to apply to the organized gathering of tens of thousands of foreign nationals calling for the overthrow of our country.

H.R. 4437 At this link you will find a good exegesis of the only bill that doesn't offer some type of amnesty/pathway to citizenship/excuses for illegal entry. It is harsh on employers but has reasonable protections for employers who verify documents that are later shown to be false. It explains that the databases necessary are already in place. It provides for border security.

Understand that the provision that the protesters say is 'racist,' that makes illegals felons, was inserted by the Dems a short time ago. That clarifies why Hillary happened to discover the immigration issue a week before the marches. Why she demonized Republicans as "making Jesus a criminal."

Keep in mind just who organized these protests. Who provided the tens of thousands of T-shirts, the thousands of professionally made signs, the hours and hours of promotion on Spanish language radio and TV stations. It has been noticed that Islamic orgs names and logos appear on some of these signs as well. Remember that NEA teachers and adminstrators are the ones who have assisted the march organizers by providing bussing for their students, hoisting Mexican flags at school and overlooking the truancy.

Don't forget that the last two Presidential elections were nearly 50/50. Think about how our Congress is looking for a way to appease these foreign nationals through legilation. No election necessary. The outcome of legalizing 11 million illegals and encouraging more to come will be a solid lock for the left forevermore in national elections.

Mexico is Rich- Mexican wealthy play American taxpayers for suckers

Good thread for any that missed it. It should really make you mad.

Every dollar spent in U.S. taxes for social services for illegal aliens frees up additional cash to be sent south as part of the annual remittances which provided $20 billion in 2005. According to the CNN news show Lou Dobbs Tonight (3/21/05), "Remittances, as they're called, are expected to become Mexico's primary source of income this year, surpassing the amount of money that Mexico makes on oil exports for the first time ever."

The city attorney advised supervisors that it if the measure is subjected to a legal challenge, a court would likely find it in conflict with the state constitution, which requires voters to be U.S. citizens.

Not with those fools on the 9th Circus - they'll just invalidate the state constitution so that non-citizens, hey, let's go all the way and include illegal aliens, can vote.

What percentage of Americans regularly vote anyway? In local elections the turnout is even lower than in presidential elections. Do you think "illegals" would turn out in greater numbers than Americans to vote?

"Unfortunately they are not allowed to directly participate in choosing the municipal representatives who make the policies that affect their daily lives."

Somebody is not allowing them to enter into the process of becoming citizens and gaining the franchise to vote?

Perhaps Melissa should find this somebody and give them a very severe lecture.

I'm sure she wants all these non-voting constituents to become citizens.

While waiting, they can vote on American Idol if they want to vote.

Keep the faith, my friend!

Of course, your brave band can not hold back the hordes. But you make a powerful symbolic statement!

It is huge for those of us who can do little but complain to each other to know that there are men putting their bodies into this fight.

You are a great inspiration and far more important to our cause than you are feeling right now! Keep up the great work. I salute you.

Any state that permits illegal aliens to vote for Federal officeholders should be denied representation in Congress, as it would render the election process in that state invalid. Additionally, the electoral vote from such a state should not be counted in determining the Presidential race. I don't know if such a measure would entail amending the Constitution, but if so, an amendment to this effect is in order.

What is the criteria to establish the right to vote, anyway?

Is it your age? Place of residence? Country of birth? Payment of taxes? Evidence of intellectual attainment? Apparently, by legislation, the definition of "citizen" can be darned near anything you want it to be.

The history of enfranchisement in this country has pretty much been REMOVING restrictions on the right to vote, and extending it to those who have never had it before. At one time, you know, only white males that had attained the age of 21, and owned property, were given the vote. Then the property requirement was taken away. Then the racial requirement was dropped. Then the literacy requirement was removed. Then the requirement that payment of taxes must be current was legislated out of existence. Even gender was made not relevant, likewise the requirement of attaining 21 years of age.

The US code does not even define the citizenship of any individual. Citizenship is determined and recognized by the state in which you live. If you are a citizen of any of the individual States, you are a United States citizen.

It is my opinion that we are already in WWIV ( WWIII being the Cold War ) and there are two, somewhat interlocking elements to it:

Yep. Islam and leftists/socialists/communists.

The cause of fanaticism and why it's dangerous.

The fanatic has an elitist view of himself. He holds a firm belief that he is in some way special and has something that others, not like him, do not. Because of this basic self-view any disagreement with the elitist or any resistance to their actions causes anger. This "supreme" view of himself is an excuse for justifying his anger and thus justifying any act from deception to murder against those who disagree or refuse to comply with it. He is comfortable with hatred, revenge, lying or any gross deception in defense of his special "superior" position acted out against those (the "others") who do resist or refuse to validate his view.

It is impossible to reason or negotiate with someone who holds the POV that they are morally and/or ethically superior by virtue of a superior self-image. Everything you do to accommodate their "concerns" (demands), short of complete capitulation, will be discounted due to your "inherent" inferiority. Any resistance to this, anything other than complete submission, becomes self-evident proof of their "superiority." The elitist POV presupposes the rationale of rightness and righteousness as inherent to themselves by virtue of their self-superior self-image not as a measure of the quality of their actions or their resulting consequences. That becomes the basis of their personal beliefs and can be supported by an ideology or philosophy they choose to identify with but the doctrine itself may or may not, loosely or strictly, support their view. That is of secondary or even tertiary importance. Of course the opposite is true for the "non-elites" in the fanatic's mindset. You can never be right if you're not one of the "righteous."

It should be obvious why a fanatic is dangerous. Any and all negative or evil acts can be justified on the basis of any disassociation with the personal identity of the fanatic. The intent and motivations of an "outsider" are irrelevant no matter how positive. The results of an outsider's actions are irrelevant no matter how accommodating or constructive. The non-elites are always wrong because they won't submit to the fanatic's view.

The world is full of fanatics of every kind and they can base their superior self-view on any pretext that they feel works for them. Some belong to large groups of "like-minded" fanatics, some belong to a group that is not in itself fanatical but lends itself to the fanatics needs and some are individuals who cling to the delusion that they alone are special.

In today's world the United States in particular and western civilization in general is under a concerted assault from two separate groups of fanatic elitists. Fundamentalist Muslims and leftists. The Islamo-nazis and the Marxists. Both leftists and Islamo-fascists hold a firm belief that they are special and have something that "rednecks" and infidels don't have. With leftists it is "intellect" and "social sophistication" and with Islamo-nazis it's a "call from Allah," a "holy annointing."

Both groups are manifestations of a mass psychological disorder of fanatic elitism. Both are extremely unstable and are neither founded upon nor affected by sound logic or reason. Convinced of their own "inherent" superiority they will both press their respective agendas as far as they can without regard for the consequences to themselves or to others. In both cases the blame for all of their actions will "logically" fall on the shoulders of "the others," the outsider. Negative consequences of their actions simply become another tool for self-vindication.

The fanatic elitist mindset is the same as the mindset of the rabid dog. It is the mindset of "us-and-them" on an absolute scale. Nothing else has a valid existence for them except for their personal perception of things. Nothing else can; their POV cannot be affected by outside influence by it's design. It is a paradigm that holds that anything contrary to it is self-negated. Change can only occur from within and this means a change in the "prime directive." Change requires the abdication of their most basic self-view, the view that they are special and unique in a superior way. A view that all reasonable people must either completely reject or submit to. Those are the only choices the fanatic leaves to "the others."

San Francisco voters will have the chance to make their city the first in California to allow non-citizens to vote in school board elections if they have children in the school system.

Imagine how controversial it would be in San Francisco if only people who have children currently enrolled or previously had children erolled in school were allowed to vote in school board elections.

Is there no federal law that allowing non-citizens to vote (even in local, city, or state elections)is still illegal?

But I'm sure there are state laws in many states prohibiting voting by noncitizens in local elections.
