McCain: Not Enough Guest-Worker Backing

Supporters of a guest worker program that would let illegal immigrants stay in the United States said Tuesday they don't have enough Senate votes to overcome objections from conservatives who oppose the measure on grounds it amounts to amnesty.

As negotiators worked on a compromise to let those who have been here longest remain, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said a majority in the 100- member Senate support his and Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's proposal to provide green cards to illegal immigrants after they've worked in the U.S. for six years.

Our nation is now rotting from the inside out.

If we don't get rid of the illegals then this nation as we know it is finished.

Target the companioes that hire illegals and the illegals will deport themselves in fairly large numbers.

If true great news, but I don't believe a word Mcain or any democrat spews. It may be a ruse to slow our efforts to stop the travesty of amnesty.

We're not going to get rid of the illegal aliens, it's way too late. Is the country done? It does not appear so, although there would be any number of major events that could set the country back a ways. A competent manager would say, here's the situation, here's what we have to do. Deportation is not possible, in fact there are more pressing problems such as the shortage of nuclear power plants that need fiscal attention.

Targeting companies that hire illegals seems straightforward, but the illegals we are worried about are working in jobs outside the system of legally registered business. Registered businesses with Human Resources departments of any degree of professionalism are already leery of hiring illegal aliens. Unregistered businesses are a drag on the system and run the gamut of types from construction to drugs and pimping. Those businesses are very difficult to root out.

I don't get exactly how they'd know if an illegal was present in America was six or more years.

Either way, I hope there are 41 senators who stand up and filibuster this thinly-disguised amnesty.

NEWSFLASH TO ALL:

Five/six years is a REDUCTION of the current TEN YEARS REQUIRED RIGHT NOW for an illegal in this country to apply for a hardship stay. Five years is even less than the six years that was previously required in the 1990's!

I think the REAL polling says very bad news for the senators.

The real translation is SENATORS ARE TRYING TO SAVE AMNESTY PROGRAM!

You're kidding yourself if you believe that. Tyson foods is not little off the wall outfit. Nor was Collins and Aikman when I worked for them as they hired illegal aliens.

"GOOD! Don't give up. Keep those phone lines burning! Keep faxing! Keep emailing! We can't give up now."

That's right. It's time to crank up the heat another couple of notches. YES WE CAN defeat amnesty and defend our borders.

There are 12-30 million illegal aliens. How many are employed in legit business? One million? That seems high. The rest of the problem would still exist even if the few dozen here and there are rooted out.

"Granting illegals amnesty is unpopular, and so is enforcing the law"

Every poll I've seen shows that enforcing the law is overwhelmingly popular with the American people.

I don't trust or believe anything that comes out of the McCain camp.

We must keep up the pressure!

Right. The cost of rounding up 12-30 million illegals is ignored, but enforcing the law is a 'feel-good' kind of idea that everybody can get behind. This will not be cheap.

Funny how cost is no object on some things.

True. New Orleans. Iraq. Healthcare. But not illegal aliens.

Something should be done! but, don't mention the pricetag.

Want to discuss the costs of not enforcing the law?

Just what kind of a price tag do you put on the rule of law? National sovereignty?

The IRS doesn't shrink from the task.

$240 billion a year for the next ten years. Saving money elsewhere will not eliminate this cost, it still must be budgeted and personnel hired.
