Related story in the local media, but it really doesn't say much else.

From the ABQ Journal's blog site:

Also unclear is when Astorga may be returned to New Mexico, but White said a liaison with the Federal Bureau of Investigation is now in Juarez working with Mexican officials on "all the documentation we need to expedite (Astorga's) return."

In the past, Mexican officials have been reluctant to extradite fugitives from the United States who may be facing the death penalty -- which Astorga almost certainly will face. But it is unclear whether that will be a factor in this case.

GRRRRRR

Read this weekend that his aunt, who works as a supervisor in an MVD office, made him a fake ID. Lovely.

If we can't apply all our laws on these druggies, then there is no reason to extradite them. Let Mexico house and provide welfare to these criminals for the rest of their lives. It shouldn't be the U.S. taxpayer. We don't have enough room in our prisons now so lets not overcrowd them waith more Mexicans.

He's a local here. Not an import.

He is also wanted for murder. Mexico will not deport unless we remove the murder charges.

He is also wanted for murder.

The deputy was shot less than 10 miles from me. And the perp holed up for a day in a trailer only two miles away.

Mexico will not deport unless we remove the murder charges.

They'll extradite, just under the condition no death penalty. Since NM has only executed one person in 30 years....

That'll make the libbie's happy. Sometimes you just wish for vigilante justice - but without the video camera rolling as happened to that Cloudcroft deputy.

I wanted to catch him on my property.... I'd never have to worry about speeding tickets on S-14 again.

There's a lot about this story, particularly the family, that show the worst of NM society.

Send his aid and comfort society to prison for 30 years without parole for their role in the LEO's murder and helping his killer escape.......I'd trade him to put those folks in jail for that long. Sends a powerful message IMO. I'll put your mamma, your sister, your daddy and every friend or family member that assisted you in jail < /sarcasm> and even put your damn dog in the pound < /sarcasm>if they helped you Astorga.

As we see in terrorist nations, if the people support the killers then it's tough to catch em. If ya put heat on the people they will cough up the killers.

..... He'll run back to this side eventually and we'll get him later or they'll kill him down there. Maybe he'll wind up in a Texas Rangers trunk accidentally on this side of the Rio Grande......
