What Would It Cost to Deport Illegal Aliens?
Human Events Online ^ | Posted Aug 01, 2005 | staff

Imagine that you came home tomorrow and found a stranger living in your home. Would you pay $148 to have him removed, or would you instead just legally adopt him and give him the run of the place to save the $148? The Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank in Washington, D.C., thinks the “practical” thing to do would be adopt the “undocumented family member” that broke into your home.

At least, that is what I can extrapolate from the report they released last week purporting to document the true cost of deporting –rather than amnestying-- the 10 million illegal aliens that have smuggled themselves into our homeland over the past two decades. According to the study, which was dutifully reported by the Washington Post and others, it would cost the Federal Government $41 billion per year over the next five years to take the “draconian” step of actually enforcing our immigration laws.

Let’s pretend, for just a moment, that the ghost of the bloody Greek King Dracon is not laughing hysterically at the idea that being deported home in an air-conditioned bus is now considered “draconian.” And while we’re in fantasyland, let us also pretend that the $41 billion per year figure is even remotely accurate. The Federal Government has an annual budget of $2.34 trillion per year. Our Gross Domestic Product is a staggering $12 trillion per year. $41 billion would be just 1.7% of the Federal budget, and a miniscule 0.34% of our GDP.

Whatever it takes, I agree. We need to let it be known, our laws are there to be observed. The gravy train at the middle-class' expense is over.

Do you have a more efficient mechanism for moving illegal immigrants from where they are now to where they're supposed to be? (Which, usually, is in Mexico.)

I'm with you. On top of that I'll offer up the opinion that the governing class likes the idea of poor under educated masses. They don't have to use the school system to dumb down the kids. It's immediate. And it's a lot easier to lead uneducated poor people around by (the nose) primised benefits.

Those are good points, but I think you, I and the average citizen would be shocked to know what the actual yearly cost is. Many of those costs are indirectly related and don't even get considered.

For instance, in the LAUSD they have a gigantic building program. As a construction project, it's second only to the big dig in Boston. We're talking about multiple billions of dollars, possibly in excess of $10 billion. Do you think those building costs are attributed to illegal immigrants? Of course not. Don't forget though, U.S. Citizens are barely having enough kids to replace themselves. With the Baby Boomers heading into regirement, the population in our schools should actually be leveling off or perhaps even dropping a bit.

Most people don't know that upwards of one third of our k-12th grade kids in the LAUSD school system are the children of illegal immigrants. The LAUSD isn't the only school sytem facing this problem. It's a nationwide problem. None of the building costs are being characterized as illegal immigrant related costs.

Folks think about health care. They think about pupil for day rates as they apply to education. They do NOT think about building projects. Those are passed off as something the school districts would have to do anyway, which is not the case.

This is just one example of what I believe are a myriad of multiple billion dollar hidden costs that illegal immigration is costing the middle-class.

Fine every employer $2000 per day per illegal. Have La Migra swamp upper-middle-class neighborhoods, factories, farms, and fast food chains.

They will take themselves over the border for free soon enough.

Fine every employer $2000 per day per illegal.

For a lot of the illegal-employers, $2000 per day per illegal isn't anything.

Better idea: instant forfeiture of assets and loss of citizenship, followed by deportation to land or origin for illegal aliens.

If they love those folks more than their fellow American citizens, they can live with those folks instead of us.

Exactly. If things were made tougher for them we wouldn't need to deport them. They would leave on their own.

There are countless ways to make it tougher on them, 'nuf said.

So I'm pretty confused about this issue and would welcome comments.

You're confused, alright. Very confused.

Maybe not death camps per se, but to wrench people out of their homes and their possessions in the same way the nazis did

Those homes and possessions are the fruit of criminal activity; they should be confiscated, and the owners returned to their country of origin.

Had we bothered to police our borders, we wouldn't NEED trains running hither and yon loaded up with illegal immigrants. Now, we have to get 12-20 million potential enemy combatants out of this country and back to Mexico.

Tancredo said it just last week: Each new illegal would be an anchor and if each of them brought in only 2 or 3 family members, we would see 100 million new citizens in a very short time. How can we ever assimilate that many?

The short answer is: we can't. The banksters and other "speculative capitalists" know this. They want to destroy this country's middle class so that they might live as feudal lords.

Well, they're doing a great job destroying the middle class, exporting all those jobs out of the country, now importing competition for jobs for workers.

It does seem as if our "leaders" want to destroy the middle class for some reason.

We've reached a sorry state in this country. I hope we can recover from this disaster.

All kinds of mafia gangs are in California. Our kids, the movie industry ininundated. My daughter associates with mexican mafia types and Hollywood. It's difficult to explain to a person who is set on blaming himself for his problems. If dope was not in this country, our kids would be doing something else? (according to you) but usually we have some kids that grow up without being total losers. Not today, not in California.

It's very hard for children to get a good start these days and succeed. Some people are doing it but it takes more control than most of us have and our values are so wild. My children had everything going for them that I did not and they are mired in there weaknesses.(so are all the people I know.) True, I expected them to make it better than they did. I am totally at a loss as to what it takes to win these days without doing something illegal or unhealthy.

I reread Clockwork Orange and saw the movie. It is more relevant today than when I read it in the 70's. So, maybe Pa is different, but I doubt it. Families are not pulling together to help one another and people are at a total loss. One thing the immigrants have is family. They help one another, but they also suffer utter poverty which gives them incentive also.

I really do fear for this country for the next few years. God help us!! But US seems to get a slow start, but we will get it together. We still have what it takes to keep the world off of us. This generation may get a chance to see if the "verve" to survive is still there. Can we still work as a group? We will soon see, but not without painful losses. Guess we have forgotten the pain involved in keeping our freedoms. Pray for us to get rid of the "mental cobwebs" SOOOOON!

How does AMERICANS BE GONE sound to you? With 11 million illegal mexicans and ??? from other countries, how many original US people do we have? Is it important? Who likes Apple Pie anyway and Who wants a Stars and Stripes Flag. Green and Red is ok. Viva other countries!!! US can't take care of itself. Survival of the fittest, the quickest, the majority. Right?? Darwin said that! Believe it!

WRONG! I worked with filipinos. People looking for freebies, don't care what they do to the home people. Don't forget that!! They also understand spanish, so get along better with Mexicans but are usually smarter. Again they team work only with one another and speak their own language. That is the problem with immigrants.

Why not import smart people?? with higher values? I'm sick of mexican stuff? inlaws that hate americans. US wake up and smell the coffee!! The world is stealiing from us with out consent. What do we do with poor Americans, shove them under the bed???in the closet?? All poor people eat, have medical needs etc. Charity begins at home!! Kick out illegals to start with. Then we will go the next step. No other country takes poor people from our country to work?? No body even asks or count the poor in US. Its time!!

How about an EXCHANGE agreement, one of theirs for one of ours.

The remedy you've proposed depends on the cooperation of the Mexican government. We don't have their cooperation and they've made it clear that we are not going to get it.
