Imagine that you came home tomorrow and found a stranger living in your home. Would you pay $148 to have him removed, or would you instead just legally adopt him and give him the run of the place to save the $148? The Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank in Washington, D.C., thinks the practical thing to do would be adopt the undocumented family member that broke into your home.
At least, that is what I can extrapolate from the report they released last week purporting to document the true cost of deporting rather than amnestying-- the 10 million illegal aliens that have smuggled themselves into our homeland over the past two decades. According to the study, which was dutifully reported by the Washington Post and others, it would cost the Federal Government $41 billion per year over the next five years to take the draconian step of actually enforcing our immigration laws.
Lets pretend, for just a moment, that the ghost of the bloody Greek King Dracon is not laughing hysterically at the idea that being deported home in an air-conditioned bus is now considered draconian. And while were in fantasyland, let us also pretend that the $41 billion per year figure is even remotely accurate. The Federal Government has an annual budget of $2.34 trillion per year. Our Gross Domestic Product is a staggering $12 trillion per year. $41 billion would be just 1.7% of the Federal budget, and a miniscule 0.34% of our GDP.

Tancredo said it just last week: Each new illegal would be an anchor and if each of them brought in only 2 or 3 family members, we would see 100 million new citizens in a very short time. How can we ever assimilate that many?
Assimilate? Surely you jest! I realize you know this or you wouldn't have responded. Revolting isn't it.
So, see, you too can adopt this poor hungry wretch of an illegal alien for less than $5 a day, and send them back to the friends and family that they were forced to leave in order to make the arduous trek north across the blistering Arizona desert just to make a measly buck picking lettuce and cotton, 'cause no American will do those demeaning jobs.
Whew...that was a mouthful...
Okay, if someone landed in my house, I got along with them, and they wanted to clean my house for cheap in return for being able to stay, I'd take them up on it. Believe me, I'd be a lot happier if someone would do that in my house.
On the other hand, if they came up to me and yelled that I stole the land from them and asked for it back, I'd call the cops.
I don't mind if people come here to make a living, and don't love America, but I really think it's better if they don't actively hate America and wish for its destruction. That's crossing a line I had no idea they had crossed.
After seeing those protests, I'm starting to change my thinking on this issue. I still don't like the views of the nativists because they seem so harsh, but I certainly don't like the fact that half a million people marched in an effort to turn our land into Mexico.
They sounded like the Palestinians, and they sounded angry enough to be suicide bombers. I don't think things will go that far since the Catholic church isn't going to preach sermons advocating that kind of behavior any time soon. But just the fact that I could make such a comparison doesn't strike me as a good sign.
And yet, all of this aside, I appreciate the vitality that Latin culture gives us. Right now, I live in Pittsburgh, which is about 90% white. Is life better because there are no illegal aliens?
Actually, it's worse. Everyone here is grim, unhappy, doing little but surviving. There is very little joy and vitality here. And part of the reason is a shrinking population.
If all the illegals were removed from LA and San Diego and other places with high concentrations, we'd see veritable ghost towns. The value of your home would almost certainly go down.
And the Latin flair and love of life, which I am convinced that we need, would go away.
The alternative is for our cities to look like Pittsburgh. Glum, white and shrinking.
I think I'd prefer LA as it is than for that to happen.
But that leaves out the fact that there are a lot of people who hate us, and if they hate us ... they shouldn't be here.
So I'm pretty confused about this issue and would welcome comments.
D
Exactly.
Judging by what we saw last week, a large percentage seem to have no intention of assimilating.
We're watching the destruction of this country as we know it now. No one in DC, except for a mere handful, seems to be listening to us. Our "leaders" are bent on this, and seem indifferent to our concerns.
Ditto!!! What's taking so long? If I run a stop sign a photo is sent to the police and I am fined over $200. So, what's the problem with the law? Is our president a total goof ball?? I live in Coachella Valley too. Am a nurse and mexicans refuse to speak english in hospital or anywhere else (probably refuse to speak english to assist new illegals who do not speak english coming to work here to replace me, do not know universal precautions, etc., refuse to do team work with non mexicans, dangerous, unsanitary situation for patients).
That little story about little lady Bush went to school with and her stupid business. Bush has a heart LOL, LOL. I have met many like her and all they want to do is get an import business started stealing money from the US. We know americans around who want to start an import job. Does Bush live in the US? Unemployment is high.(How about my daughter?? She's a hard worker, intelligent, speaks spanish.) Mexicans illegals are taking jobs of americans, face it and US citizens, smell the coffee!
Reaons US gov cannot understand that "charity" begins at home rooted in "greed" against US citizens. NO JOBs FOR IMMIGRANTS until at least 25 americans refuse it, then send legal document to Mexico, China, etc all countries equaly offering opportunity to work in us with jobs needed listed an matched to before sending them here (documented, photographed, fingerprinted, limited time to be returned, certified). Better yet, send them off to fight in Iraq. We need more volunteers or Coalition Mercenaries?? If they are such hard workers?? (Mexico is not helping in Iraq) to help our young people fighting their guts out over there and losing their lives(documented and certified).
Businesses are lying. Mexicans refuse to do team work with anyone who is not Mexican. They openly claim they hate americans. What else do we want to hear, that they love us for giving them a chance for their families??? They burn American Flag, LIES, LIES, and more LIES and Fox is a jerk, dumping his poor off on US (and anyone else he doesn't like). Fox should pay US for taking Fox's stupids off his hands...and what about people from other countries.
Why don't we count anymore??? Do we only want Mexicans?? What about Russians, chinese, etc. Maybe Mexico doesn't have any intelligent people who can pass the immigration regulations? What's the problem with the current laws?? Gov refuses to enforce them!!!!
Yeah, you're right wrt Fox. Tony Snow had a piece on his website admonishing everyone to "get the facts" and use "common sense". He quoted unattributed studies and a load of vague statements, and in short, proved he had definitely "drank the Kool-Aid" as one poster termed it. Hey, Rupert must want amnesty and Tony wants a job. I think we can count on Fox pumping the admin line on this issue.

I thought it was very weakly argued and posted a number of debunkings on that thread, but more importantly, it should be recognized as the indicator for how Fox is going to spin this issue. Let's just know that going in.
I wouldn't count on them moving out of US if they didn't have jobs. Many of them live in our state in the bushes and are homeless, eat at the soup kitchens, and still hang around for freebees, get into legal trouble, rape our children, rob, ec., over 45% of people in prison are mexican odescent, have been threatened;accussed of threatening mexmaid with a knife. I am a home owner and multiple condo owner in my complex hires illegals to do work in the ten condos she owns in my complex even though the CCR's require all work done here must be licensed.
But my understanding is that you have some pretty steep state income and property taxes in PA. Now...let's add 15-20% to your public school student population and more to your welfare rolls; while simultaneously depressing the prevailing wages for the various kinds of jobs that ex-industrial types are having to shift to. If you get sick and need to go the hospital, let's add half a dozen folks in front of you who get treated at no charge because they cannot be turned away. Whatever medical attention you seek (and pay for) is delayed, and the cost of it likely increased due that increased overhead the hospitals are forced to accomodate. Perhaps your state has to build new prisons, for which they will undoubtedly float new bonds, increasing the state debt and debt service. This may give you a picture of the type of thing we in the western states are seeing.
Of course, the various government agencies in your area would be delighted, because they would have more busywork to do, more cases to administer, more meetings to schedule, making them feel so much more important. They get to ask for raises, since they are so busy. And they vote themselves those raises. But the net effect to you, the (I'm assuming) long time resident, is almost completely negative. 'Cept for those new tacquerias you can chow down at.
"I got along with them"
Well David, after your children have been raped, your son high on dope all the time, you're sick of all that mexican music, the maid runs off with all your wife's jewelry and expensive underwear, maybe you will be ready to rid your town of these pests.
I recommend a visit for you in California until you get tired of hearing "La Cucucharacha" ten million billion times and see all the slovenly day laborors looking for work ganged on the street corners, peeing on the sidewalk because there are no toilets; or maybe the ominous rumble of the "low-rider" cars in the night when you are trying to sleep which tell you not to go outside without a weapon and to make sure your car and windows are locked.
They'll clean your house ok of any asset they can get their hands on then hi-tail it back to mexico. You think they will smile and say "gracious, senor" LOL, LOL, dreamer!
It's one thing to round up and deport them. It's another thing entirely to keep them deported.
Heavy fortification all along the southern border. Perhaps as many as 40,000 troops on permanent patrol. Every German shepard on the planet. Massive sea-going deployment for coastal interdiction. Then there's Vicente Fox, whose popularity in Mexico hinges largely on his success in getting rid of Mexico's "undesirables" by dumping them into our country. We will have to forget about Mexican cooperation on anything -- oil, NAFTA, Venezuela, Cuba, Panama, etc.
But even with all that and more, I still say we should go for it. In fact, the best outcome, IMO, would be to finish what President Polk started.
Their work stoppages serve to infuriate many citizens who are becoming fed up with the illegals AND the Americans who want to give them amnesty.
Cities like Chicago and New York are filled with immigrants who came to this country legally. They must be incensed by the insensitivity of our politicians to condone the illegals in any way as "citizens" unless they legally become citizens, the same as they did.
sheeesh, think they prostituted my tagline.
I don't care how much it costs. The future of our country and our people is at stake.
Neither; I pick C.: Shoot his @55, and haul the carcass outside for a warning.
For all I know, he is an axe-murdering rapist pedophile terrorist, looking for a place to set up a meth lab, to finance church bombers.
There are not that many small farmers anymore. Most of the illegals work for ADM or ConAgra or large "co-ops" such as Sunkist. Let them hire U.S. citizens.
We also need to serve notice to the Hegel types that intervention with The Border Patrol/INS, as in the case of the Nebraska meat packers, will not to be tolerated.
Perhaps a few class action suits like the enviro-nazis used against EPA are in order against Hegel and the Ins, forcing them to follow immigration law.

Simple answer: A WHOLE LOT
But only about .001 percent of what it will cost in the long run if we do not get it done within the next couple of years.
