AUSTIN A University of Texas professor says the Earth would be better off with 90 percent of the human population dead.
Every one of you who gets to survive has to bury nine, Though his statements are admittedly bold, hes not without abundant advocates. But what may set this revered biologist apart from other doomsday soothsayers is this: Humanitys collapse is a notion he embraces.
Indeed, his words deal, very literally, on a life-and-death scale, yet he smiles and jokes candidly throughout the lecture. Disseminating a message many would call morbid, Piankas warnings are centered upon awareness rather than fear.
This is really an exciting time, he said Friday amid warnings of apocalypse, destruction and disease. Only minutes earlier he declared, Death. This is what awaits us all. Death. Reflecting on the so-called Ancient Chinese Curse, May you live in interesting times, he wore, surprisingly, a smile.
So whats at the heart of Piankas claim?
6.5 billion humans is too many.
In his estimation, Weve grown fat, apathetic and miserable, all the while leaving the planet parched.
The solution?
A 90 percent reduction.
Thats 5.8 billion lives lives he says are turning the planet into fat, human biomass. He points to an 85 percent swell in the population during the last 25 years and insists civilization is on the brink of its downfall likely at the hand of widespread disease.
[Disease] will control the scourge of humanity, Pianka said. Were looking forward to a huge collapse.

You should find a picture of Al Gore from his college days.
Really?? Where would that be?? Here in Washington, the snowpack is the highest its been in years.
He is a psycho...he also doesn't take into account the spread of aids, negative population growth in most industrialized nations or a potential ice age. All of these can limit the population without his precious Ebola. Also, he should know as a biologist that when diseases become more prolific, they tend to become less deadly.
I think such a project requires some testing... He should go first...
Let the Professor go and die first.
"Professor Pianka advocates the intentional use of airborne Ebola virus to reduce the human population by 90%"
Except for himself and the environmental elites who are deserving of life? Oh, and whatever serfs he needs for a comfortable life.
Actually, the more dangerous combination is; Garbage in, Gopsel out.
He's a short-sighted academic twit. Human needs and ingenuity will prompt terraforming and settlement of moons and other planets to initiate our colonization of the universe.
Professor Pianka must have spent some time on I-285 in Atlanta. A few weeks of that and you'd be wishing that about 90% of 'em were gone, too.
I think I saw his clone entering a homeless shelter in Akron last weekend.
If 90% of the population is wiped out, who is going to attend his Marxist indoctrinations?
Not at all... 3 months is a minimum. My point is that some folks, prefer to proclaim a death knell by phony half-truths and specious humanitarian concern. Being pragmatic & practical, is a whole 'nother matter, my FRiend.
Of the three,Al gore looks good.Good enough in fact to tie a red bow on and push him through the front door of San Francisco gay bathhouse.
More and more scarier things are coming out of UT every day. There will be a student or professor to pull something like this.
>>The entire population of the earth could stand in the city of Jacksonville, Florida.
Don't send them here. The traffic is bad enough already!
By the by, dread, you do recognize the lies in post #35- right?
And the US would be the worse hit simply because we do get our foodstuff from grocery stores. Most Americans can't wrap their minds around the fact that milk doesn't somehow magically grow on the dairy shelf. Americans rely on fast food and have no concept of stocking up for emergencies or being self reliant. Look at how quickly NO residents ran out of food.
