Just got home from work, and was listening to Joe Crummy on KFYI interview one of the dads of the kids that burned the Mexican flag:
Apparently, his kid was arrested by AJ Police and was held in detention in Florence all day yesterday. CHarged with Arson. It took all of their savings to get a retainer for an atty.
It gets better. The family is now getting death threats. They were informed by police that there are those trying to find out where the family lives, and are going after them. AJ police stated to the father, there is nothing they can do about it, until someone actually shows up on their property.
Also, there was another kid from the school (Rod, who said he was a "future" Marine) read that letter from the school, forbiding any kid to wear any article of clothing resembling or representing a flag, no matter what country it represents.
He said emphatically, that he *will* wear the US Flag to school Monday.
Apparently this flag burning was near the ROTC table.
My respect for the kids in AJ have grown a hundred fold!

I think the kid buring the Mexican flag has some good sized stones...
I wonder then if we could charge the Mexifornians with the following:
13-2910.04. Presence at cockfight; classification
(Caution: 1998 Prop. 105 applies)
Any person who is knowingly present at any place or building where preparations are being made for an exhibition of the fighting of cocks, or is present at such exhibition, is guilty of a class 1 misdemeanor.

No, there is a difference here. Two totally different acts. The Hispanic student is protesting about allowing illegals in unfettered. This kid took the flag and burned it. There was no oppressive government involved. To irk you more, I respect the other kid's right to protest, and the kid who burned the flag's right to do so as well. Both though must realize that they crossed lines, and must pay for that. I just happen to disagree with the Hispanic kid, and totally agree with Travis.

I thought that numerous courts have ruled it to be OK under the first Amendment. Not just any courts the UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT ruled that burning a flag was protected under the first amendment that is why the congress has been trying for so many years to get a anti flag burning amendment added to the constitution because they cant just pass a regular law against it

"The only difference between a hate crime and a non-hate crime is the assumed thought process in the mind of the actor...therefore, thought is a crime."
While I agree with you concerning hate crimes, I do have a question: How is this different from murder vs. manslaughter? We seem to admit motive as a determining factor in other instances...

Travis got suspended today.... Oh, CRAP!
How ridiculous is that?
He posted a magnificent opus yesterday to Tony and I supported him.
I don't listen to Tony, but it sounded like he was sticking up for the McKennedy shamnesty.
Let's see, this week so far, Stellar and Travis banned and F16 went silent on principle.
Shades of a year ago.

The mexican flag was first raised over the American flag on the flagpole before it was burned. This kid deserves a medal.Taking down the American flag and replacing it with the flag of a foreign nation is an act of war!
Arresting this hero is an act of cowardice!
This must not stand!!!!!

I think I just heard on local TV 5 news, that the Apache Junction police are not going to charge that boy. I hope I heard right.

I think it would be a big mistake if they did. And if you did hear right, they know it too.

Who's arguing? Surely not I, m'friend. I've no particular knowledge of that rape business, although I've certainly heard stories about it, as, I imagine, have many or most posters here. The official story as put to the press, was of course that he simply refused to complete the coursework. Doubtless the archives of the NY Slimes and Washington Compost will ''inform'' upon this point.
The Dons, as you very likely know, deal in convenience -- at least as much as the Regress or the House of Commons. Never solve a problem, just get rid of it, temporarily (or, if lucky, longer), as with Xlinton.
Only thing I stated was the old ''official'' reason for his expulsion...not that there weren't 50 others, including the rape of your cousin's acquaintance.
If you're looking for someone to excuse Xlinton's sociopathy, I'm sorry, you'll need to search elsewhere, because I sure as h*ll will not.

"Motive" is only a factor in hate crimes, which should not be confused with "intent" to do the act or to achieve the result.
Until Hate crimes existed, all crimes had to include an action, from which intent could be inferred. But you could hate anybody you wanted if you did not act.
Now, if you act, we will examine your motive, and if we don't like it, we reserve the right to punish you more because of that motive. In either case, the intent to strike is there, but the motive may be completely different.
If I munch you and intend to do so, that is criminal. The reasons for my wanting to punch you never used to be examined until we decided that crimes for assault needed to be worse if you had a motive that society decided was not politically correct.
