Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) was online Thursday, March 30, to discuss his position on the immigration reform bills under consideration in Congress. Tancredo is chairman of the 92-member House Immigration Reform Caucus. He has advocated a major increase in border security spending, the hiring of more Border Patrol agents, and the building of a security barrier along the entire length of the border. Tancredo supported a bill passed by the House in December that would impose stiffer fines for employers who hire illegal aliens, add new mandatory minimum sentences for immigrant smugglers, and mandate automatic detention and deportation for immigrants caught crossing the border illegally. In addition the House bill would add mandatory sentences for illegal immigrants who re-renter the country after being deported. Tancredo opposes current Senate proposals that would implement a foreign guest worker program, broaden legal immigration, and provide amnesty to illegal aliens currently in the United States.

Rockville, Md.: Dear Congressman, I have been in this country for over 10 years - college education and work. Each step of the way, I have maintained my legal status. I am now in Year Three of (im)patiently waiting for my green card to be processed. It is discouraging to see that the proposed Senate bill rewards "illegals" but ignores the law-abiding immigrants (at least on their way to be through the correct channels). What are your thoughts on this?
Congressman Tom Tancredo: You've hit the nail on the head. This is one of the key problems with amnesty: it rewards people who have broken the law, and makes a mockery of our legal system and those immigrants, such as yourself, who came here legally. Worst of all, it encourages more illegal behavior.

Your problem is that like all open borders types you attack the messenger because your idea of a 'solution' is more Mexicanization of America. To your ilk securing the borders of this country and enforcing its laws is extreme, unreasonable, all or nothing radicalism and anyone who would demand that the President of the US do his job would have to be a traitor.

The problem is the conversion of America into a third world country through unchecked illegal immigration. Problem is, Tom sees that as a problem. To you open borders types it is a worthy goal. It is precisely what you want. This is a 'problem' that you and your ilk do not at all want to see fixed. So attacking Tancredo for 'not working to fix the problem' when the elite consensus is that everything is going according to plan is the height of dishonesty.
So don't try to wrap the flag in the treasonous agenda of the open borders lobby.
No, they must be arrested and deported to their respective countries. And kept out.
Tancredo has won all of his Congressional races with relative ease.
I'd rather donate to Tancredo than to the RNC.
Do you honestly think that Tom`s ideas will become law? Do you think that is what he really wants? This is the IQ part.
What will Tom do if everything he wanted became law?

What the Hell do you think Tancredo has been doing all this time? He's been advocating this since he's been in Congress.
Then a REAL guest worker program that would only allow entree into this country if they worker already had secured employment that included start/stop dates. Part of earned wages would be paid at time of exit.
A guest-worker plan is still AMNESTY. There is no guarantee that they'll remain in their jobs and there'll be another layer of federal bureaucracy to boot.
As for the ones that are here illegally now, they must register with the Feds. Then, if they don`t commit any new crimes, pay their taxes, learn the language, and our history,, after so many years, they can pay a fee, and get their citizenship.
Again, you want to reward lawbreakers. THEY ALREADY BROKE THE LAW BY COMING HERE, why do you want them to register and remain in the country? Do you realize how absolutely myopic you are?

Ok. This last line confuses me. If this were true, he should shut up, don't you think? I mean, he should want this to continue for as long as possible, otherwise he loses all that money future money, right?

Fascinating how you have so much confidence in the good faith eagerness of the WSJ cheap labor types and La Raza to 'solve the problem'. Solve a problem that they themselves created. Fascinating how you insist that border enforcement would require mass deportations. Just dry up the source of employers and they will deport themselves. This isn't France where people can live on the dole forever. Fascinating how much time and effort you put into attacking those who waged the lonely fight to defend this country.
Frankly, you strike me as a sort of agent provocateur. An agent provocateur is a kind of police agent who infiltrates opposition groups. But his role is to be the troublemaker. He constantly attacks and undermines the leadership and tries to sow dissension while all the while presenting himself as the most ultra radical purist. He tries to sow defeatism and discouragement.

Reduce the problem? Why would you want to reduce the problem, rather than solving it? I can think of two very good reasons: 1.you have a financial self-interest; 2.you have an agenda and would love to see our country balkanized, its numerical majority diluted, and America's culture and heritage degraded and ultimately subeverted.
Either way, none of the reasons make you a friend and defender of our country.
Illegal immigration is not a trivial matter, bybybill. It effects all aspects of our economy. I disagree with this statement in that what he stands to gain (another term in office, a true patriot for the working class Americans, etc)is much more than that of the pro-illegal crowd. This is a big issue and people will not forget who the true political allies are of this country.
Take abortion, for example.Lets say the Courts throw it out and say the states should decide. Politicians on both sides would USE this as away to gain power and campaign money. But once the states vote, the issue is decided and the POLITICAL POWER of the issue is gone. Look at integration for another example
IMO, Tancredo would stand to gain much more if he was pro-illegal alien as opposed to anti-illegal immigration. He faces much more resistance in his position on this issue. There is big money in illegal immigration for politicians (Corporations, special interest groups, etc)as opposed to politicians like Tancredo (American tax payers, legal aliens,etc).
