Ok. This last line confuses me. If this were true, he should shut up, don't you think? I mean, he should want this to continue for as long as possible, otherwise he loses all that money future money, right?

Here is the deal, when politicians that build their power around a single issue, they will loss that power when,in the minds of the voters, the issue is solved.
Take abortion, for example.Lets say the Courts throw it out and say the states should decide. Politicians on both sides would USE this as away to gain power and campaign money. But once the states vote, the issue is decided and the POLITICAL POWER of the issue is gone. Look at integration for another example
