Well, if you are going to call "amnesty" ANYTHING that could eventually lead to citizenship, even if they have to return home and go through all the steps of legal immigration, then YES.
To: TLI
Too bad they worded it as such.
Guest worker program, OK.
Amnesty, absolutely not.
Two different parts of an overhaul of this abysmal system we have now.

QUICKVOTE, Lou Dobbs, immigration reform bill should include a guest worker amnesty?... Ask Lou.. I figure amnesty is anything that does not require going back to mexico for at least a year or two, perhaps more.

Amnesty equals 12 million more illegals in the next 10 years.

Unfortunately, I am in the minority:
Yes 8% 707 votes
No 92% 8379 votes
Total: 9086 votes
Lucky for me, the U.S. Senate is not so hot-headed and this QuickVote is not scientific and reflects the opinions of only those Internet users who have chosen to participate. The results cannot be assumed to represent the opinions of Internet users in general, nor the public as a whole. I'd say Bush and the OBL senate have a lot of work to do.

Which part of "cnn.com" lets us read more? I didn't see anything that was obviously related to what you posted.

I'm most definitely not happy.
A guest worker program WILL be shoved down our throats. That much is unavoidable. I take "Amnesty" as ANYTHING that leads to citizenship....even this weeks sad euphemism of "Earned citizenship"...is actually amnesty all dressed up.
We need to get illegals out of our country. That can be done by strict enforcement and more severe punishment in dealing with existing hiring laws.
If the well dries up for illegals, sooner or later, they will self deport. It's that simple.

I certainly don't agree with Lou Dobbs on some issues but he's consistenrly promoted a series (going on for months) on the disastrous consequences - socially, economically, and in terms of national security - of our illegal invasion. He's made it clear the he supports HR 4437 and has had Sensenbrenner and Tancredo on innumerable times.I'm surprised to see such a presentation on CNN! In fact at 6:00pm (EST) I've given up Fox for the nightly news. Dobbs is THE most articulate and incisive voice against the illegal sunami that is destroying our nation in ALL the media. FReepers should check him out.

Guest worker program for 100-200,000 agricultural workers only.
Tath job is the only one traditionally we have needed to import labor for.

Cost estimate? Ted Kennedy says $240 billion. He probably means the first year. It would take several years and cost at least $1 trillion.

The results cannot be assumed to represent the opinions of Internet users in general, nor the public as a whole.
Good point. Perhaps these polling results published in a recent WaTimes article might convince you otherwise:
National polling data could not be more emphatic — and has been so for decades. Gallup Poll (March 27) finds 80 percent of the public wants the federal government to get tougher on illegal immigration. A Quinnipiac University Poll (March 3) finds 62 percent oppose making it easier for illegals to become citizens (72 percent in that poll don't even want illegals to be permitted to have driver's licenses). Time Magazine's recent poll (Jan. 24-26) found 75 percent favor "major penalties" on employers of illegals, 70 percent believe illegals increase the likelihood of terrorism and 57 percent would use military force at the Mexican-American border.
An NBC/Wall Street Journal poll (March 10-13) found 59 percent opposing a guest-worker proposal, and 71 percent would more likely vote for a congressional candidate who would tighten immigration controls.
An IQ Research poll (March 10) found 92 percent saying that securing the U.S. border should be a top priority of the White House and Congress.
Yet, according to a National Journal survey of Congress, 73 percent of Republican and 77 percent of Democratic congressmen and senators say they would support guest-worker legislation.
Yep, I guess you're right - we're all Internet hotheads.
But, how do you explain these other polls?

I JUST RE-READ THE TITLE OF YOUR POST AND IT'S VERY MISLEADING --- DOBBS MOST EMPHATICALLY DOES NOT SUPPORT ANY GUEST WORKER PROGRAM -- OR ANY FORM OF AMNESTY!! IN FACT HE DENOUNCED VERY STRONGLY THE POSITIONS OF THE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE! I watch him nearly every evening and if anyone wants to verify what I've said -- review the transcripts of his program loudobbs@cnn.com
