Imagine that you and several thousand of your closest friends decided to sneak into Mexico illegally. And imagine you then gathered in one of the largest cities, waving American flags and blocking traffic. Imagine you demanded in English that the Mexicans change their laws to accommodate you.
....
Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado is engaging in what amounts to open warfare with the White House on the issue. His aide Will Adams told me yesterday that Tancredo and other House conservatives intend to block any bill that contains either amnesty or guest worker provisions.
....Bush always has had ample authority to solve a relatively manageable problem with illegal immigration.
"I'm not sure what about this guy is conservative anymore," says Mark Krikorian of the Center for Immigration Studies. "He appointed a couple good judges and that was it -- and he almost blew one of those chances."
Krikorian was alluding to the Harriet Miers fiasco, one of a tri fecta of Bush blunders that have alerted conservatives to his true nature. The second was the Dubai ports controversy. The third is this push for immigration amnesty.
Krikorian advises Bush to cut his losses and accept a tough enforcement bill. Once that 700-mile fence is up on the southern border, Bush might revive his push for that amnesty that he re fuses to call an amnesty.
"A lot of ordinary Americans might swallow it if it were presented as a second step after enforcement was in place and if it weren't demanded as a right but as a result of illegals begging the forgiveness of the American people," he said.

Lets see how many Mexicans vote for republicans.
BIG TIME!!
And he just don't give a da*n either, nor does Senate, at least House passed HR4437 that was a perfect bill, but Senate with the exceptions of Kyle, Tancredo, Cornyn, and few others you still may have a job come Nov but the rest of you traitors, come Nov better start packing up and shipping OUT!!
oh well, no compromise and the result no bill. Its is beyond me how people dont see this. Now nothing will occur and the problems will continue to get worse.
The illegal aliens and the criminals who hire them and the criminals who harbor them are getting out in the street making their desires known. It is way past time those of us who support the rule of law and secure borders did the same.
Join Veterans for Secure Borders, The Minuteman Project, Latino Americans for Immigration Reform, Mothers Against Illegal Aliens, and other groups protesting amnesty for these criminals, and demanding the government protect our borders.

FReepers should be at this rally in strength. Saturday, May 6, in Crawford, TX.
A majority of Americans support deporting illegal aliens and securing the border, and have so for years. Of course an even larger percentage of conservatives are on the same page.
Why doesn't G.W. Bush, along with some other so-called Republicans, seem to care?
I was listening to Rush and he had a caller on who lives near him in Florida. The caller said he was in the farming business and that it had been good to him, which is why he is able to live near Rush. He said he couldn't find Americans willing to work on his farms.
All I could think of was I wonder why???? You live like a king yet refuse to pay an honest, working American a decent wage to work for you.
I want to switch my registration to Independent but then I won't be able to vote in the primaries. I am still considering it however.
We don't need a bill...we have perfectly good laws on the books now...they just don't get enforced...but, if there has to be a bill...let it be like the House bill which puts some teeth into our existing laws rather than gutting it with amnesty and guest worker provisions...what amounts to nothing but a surrender
I've had about enough of Bush's crap. If he were allowed to run for a third term, I'd either vote for a third party candidate or stay home, drowning my sorrows on election day.
I voted for the man twice as well as his father but I've known all along that Bush is a Globalist. What greater enemy to Globalism and his daddy's "New World Order" than borders?
"oh well, no compromise and the result no bill. Its is beyond me how people dont see this. Now nothing will occur and the problems will continue to get worse."
I tend to agree with you. In reality there is going to have to be some copromise on this isue or we will never get anywhere. I can envision some sort of guest worker program at some future date.
That said, i strongly believe that Job One is to finish building the wall. It doesn't amont to a tinker's Damn how many illegals you return over the border, if they walk half a mile and cross back in, unobstructed.
What is there to say? There are a lot of those people still left on this forum.
We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture. Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende. For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America. As I speak, we are celebrating the success of democracy in Mexico. George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000. |
Here is an excerpt of a good critique of that speech:
In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on. My Bush Epiphany By Lawrence Auster
Please folks hit the GOP where it hurts lets all stop sending any donations to the GOP let the mexicans send them donations.

I got a call from the GOP the other day, asking for money. I hung up on the girl. Not one more dime.
I've already started that, they won't get a dime from me, until I see a true turn around.
Dam right! They have lost my vote, my money and my confidence that they will do the right thing!
Well, it might be unpopular but this is what I would have supported. First real border enforcement. A huge fence wall whatever. Then some sort of guest worker program. My main concern has always been security. But I want to know who is here. That way the concerns of Security, economics, and orderly immigration is addressed. I keep hearing some of the wildest proposals that make no sense to me. Again, I know there are people who want every illegal deported to MExico now. Have them all start the process over again. I can see that viewpoint but it was one that never really excited me. Didnt seem to be such a thing that it would be a dealbreaker. But it appears nothing will be done now and the problems will get worse.
