How The GOP Can Survive The Immigration Debate
Dick Morris Wednesday, March 29, 2006
The immigration bill pending in Congress poses as crucial a test for GOP efforts to reach out to Hispanic voters as the 1964 Civil Rights Act did in determining the future partisan preferences of America's African-Americans...

Well, the GOP is in control If they fail the US, they dont deserve a win in 2006.
If Bush cant secure our own borders, then perhaps we should leave Iraq. I think I would have more faith in the Iraqi people securing their borders from foreign terrorists if we cant even keep illegals from entering our own nation. Republicans control 3 branches of this government, if they fail to act to secure our own nation, they do NOT deserve to win in 2006
But, if the Democrats win, they will pull the current border patrol from the borders and ENCOURAGE illegals to come in, by promising US citizenship and welfare programs to them.
Because they are Americans.
The "fastest-growing voter group" he mentions is not "Americans of Hispanic origin".
He's talking about illegal aliens.
And he's not the only one.
Every money-grubbin' POS in the land is trying to stake their claim. Have you seen the TV commercials where actors clearly playing the role of illegals are promised the opportunity of fitting in like "real" people, by signing up for credit, or home loans, or this, that, or the other thing?
There's an old joke about when you owe the bank ten thousand dollars, the bank owns you, but when you owe the bank ten million dollars, you own the bank.
When you get 12-25 MILLION illegals "in-country" -- with millions more pouring over the border -- and, the icing on the cake, THEY VOTE -- then you have the Mother of All "constituencies".
Suddenly, they "own the bank" -- THEY "call the shots".
"Hi, my name is Gomez, and I riot in the streets!"
We mocked the Spanish for caving to the terrorists after the railroad bombing.
Yet, we caved to the illegals after ONE day of them "taking it to the streets."
Spain can take pride at having absorbed a MAJOR hit before caving to their new masters.
We, on the other hand -- the "home of the brave" -- folded like a cheap suit after ONE day of street-clogging.
Basically, they said "Boo!", and we responded by giving them the legislation they demanded.
"Home of the brave" my ass. At least not in "The Hallowed Halls", it ain't!
How is that different from what is and has been happening since atleast 2000??? How is it different from now this POST 911 ERA?
It's already existed for several years, since the last joke of "reform" legislation was inked.
Of course, since they went so far as to create that instant-check system to get us sheep to shut up (we're easily pacified, I guess), they had to be "fair and balanced" to the employers too (you know, the ones who pass those sweeeeeet lobbybux their way?)
So, voila! -- the instant-check system was implemented -- but, its use was made optional!
Funny thing, how no one seems to use it. Go figure!
Oh, drat. The secret is out!
There will be NO credible oppisition if the Dems control everything. Absolutly NONE!!! The Dems will pull all the border patrol from the Mexican border and give illegals automatic citizenship for just crossing the border.
But now a code will be generated that has to be returned to the Government.
We might have that many allready. It is much easier by everyone to use the lower figure....it looks less harmless.
The amnesty deal would allow all of them to bring in their relatives.
In addition we would have millions upon millions rushing to get here to take advantage of amnesty. They will come from all over the world. In ten years we could end up with a few hundred million extras....sounds insane but if we don't close the door, it will be our fate.
Don't be such a drama-queen. That's the silliest thing I've ever seen. What a pile of irresponsible scaremongering.
That crap is so absurd... if you get people believing that paranoid nonsense, the next thing you'll probably try to convince them that the courts will allow men to "marry" other men! LOL!
Just what kind of morons to you take us for anyway?
Imagine that -- the courts giving the vote to illegal aliens, yeah, right.
Oh, sure, maybe it might happen SOME day -- but not any time within the next few weeks or so!
Under the republicans, that border patrol does not seem to be working otherwise, the border would NOT be an issue today. The GOP is in control of 3 branches of government. If they do not solve the border issue then does it really matter if the dems pull an inefficient and useless border patrol? I see no difference at this point. If the GOP secures the border now rather than focus on the definition of "amnesty" the dems may not ever be in control. However, if the GOP fails to secure our borders, they do not deserve to win in 2006
Perhaps it would. So, why discuss amnesty before we plug the hole? Let's stop the water from pouring into the ship before we try to decide what to do with the water we already have taken. If the GOP fails to secure the border. Then I voted for a party that fails even when they have the majority.
I wrote the following here. Perhaps it might answer that question.
Good question. They have the highest GDP per capita in all of Latin America, and they still head north.

OK, did I hear you say "underdeveloped countries?" The government of Mexico---with all of its oil revenue----needs to be taking care of its own people, not "outsourcing' them as wards of American taxpayers. Mexico can well-afford it. Mexico has more "Forbes" billionaires, 11, than all but eight other nations. It has more billionaires than Saudi Arabia, Switzerland or Taiwan. It also has more than 85,000 millionaires.
Mexico is a very racist, very bifurcated "society". I can't really use the word "culture", because that implies the singular.
You almost never hear of "people from Mexico" being called anything other than "Mexicans" -- at least, you don't hear it in this country.
In Mexico, though, it's a different matter. A very different matter.
Have you noticed how Senor Fox doesn't "look like a Mexican" (or even have a "Mexican-sounding" name?)
In Mexico, there are two classes -- one, fairly small, very wealthy, and powerful (they run the country!), and, another class, very poor, with essentially no rights, no power, no hope -- other than "crossing the Rio Grande".
Fox and the rest of the ruling class call themselves "Spanish"; the "underclass" -- the folks given nice colorful comicbooks with directions on sneaking across the border, printed up courtesy of the "Spanish" who run the government -- these folks are called "Mestizos" -- and here, they're called "Mexicans."
The "Spanish" don't sneak across the border. When they come to the USA, it's via jet plane, with the red carpet laid out before them upon arrival. They are the heads of state and industry.
The "Spanish" have decided to knock off a few birds with one stone. By "exporting their underclass" to us, they are freed from any obligation to care for them on their own -- and more significantly, they are relieved of the worry of revolt. The "Spanish" work diligently to focus the "Mestizo" anger against "the gringo nation", and, have propagandized them to accept the idea that by coming here in sufficient numbers, they will be able to "reconquer" the land for Mexico.
In a way, the process is chillingly similar to the brainwashing in the middle east, that convinces their underclass to strap on a suicide belt and get on the bus.
In both cases, it's a win-win for the "uberclass" -- they get their unwanted underclass to do the dirty work, and, they get rid of them in the process!
Eventually, the hope is that the invaders (or cast-offs, depending on one's perspective) will succeed in some measure of "reconquista", and Mexico will be in a position to impose terms of surrender. The underclass, sent out as "footsoldiers of the revolution", will -- by that plan -- succeed in taking back the land for the mother country -- and then, they'll be back to square one: unwanted Mestizos. But shhhhh! Don't tell them that! It might piss 'em off, and get 'em mad at the "Spanish" who have chumped 'em up as an army of "useful idiots."
Meanwhile, on "our" side of the border, we are hamstrung by deep-pocketed lobbies, who are intent on maintaining their supply of what might politely be termed "slave labor". And, in government, we have "sport-politicos" (nearly all politicians, it seems), who have realized that thanks to "motor-voter", the tens of millions of illegals make a handy dandy "constituency."
The rest of us, I guess, can go piss up a rope.

I am definitely a "wall first" supporter!
But now a code will be generated that has to be returned to the Government.
Oh? Do tell, please. Last I'd heard none of the currently discussed bills had been signed into law.
Mark Belling on Rush's show made a good start. He says it's completely unworkable to:
a) throw out 11 million illegals.
b) legitimize the illegals without inviting more in.
He also says you can't have a plan that works without a strong physical deterence on the borders - maybe a fence, maybe beefed-up patrols but some real deterence from crossing illegally. Add to that, a huge imbalance between the ease with which people enter illegally and the time, cost and beaurocracy of trying to legally enter. An easier, more streamlined approach to legal immigration must be part of the formula.
Here's how the GOP can win on this issue:
1) Make this about Homeland Security. Illegals aren't the only ones crossing the borders. Terrorists do too.
2) Begin now to build a physical fence all across the border between the U.S. and *Canada*. Hopefully, this can be done by executive order without the need for congressional approval.
3) Pass laws designed to make legal immigration more accessable so more people will be motivated to choose legal rather than illegal means to enter the country.
4) ONLY after the first three steps have been taken, begin building the physical fence along the border between U.S. and Mexico. When the typical whiny liberal media accuses the Republicans of racism, remind them that the Republicans first built the fence with Canada, not Mexico. Secondly, a policy will be put in place that will allow illegals a certain amount of time to go through the legal process or be deported.
No, it's not the solution everybody wants nor is it one everyone will agree with but it is a plan that can, over time, reduce the flow of illegals coming into the country, allow those already here the option to come forward or risk deportation, and allows the U.S. to process more people into the country so that more of the ones who get in will be people we want to let in, not coyotes or drug smugglers or known criminals.
And most of it can be done under the guise of homeland security rather than as a way to punish illegals or divide families. Explain that nobody wants more 9-11s and the only way to accomplish that is to know who every Juan, Dick and Harry living in the U.S. is and screening everyone who enters or leaves the country. Those who refuse to cooperate, we would have no choice but to send back.
I think this approach reduces, as much as possible, any Hispanic backlash as many of them will understand this if it is presented as a security necessity rather than an attempt to target a certain group of people.
You had me going there Don Joe!
