McKinney's Office Responds ("Oops, I'm sorry -- sort of...")
WXIA-TV Atlanta ^ | 3.29.06 | Michael King

Posted on 03/29/2006 7:38:16 PM PST by mhking

The office of Representative Cynthia McKinney (D-4th Ga.), issued a response on Wednesday evening to reports of her punching a Capitol police officer earlier in the day.

"Earlier today I had an unfortunate confrontation with a Capitol Hill Police Officer. It is traditional protocol that Capitol Hill Police Officers secure 535 Members of Congress, including 100 Senators. It is the expectation of most Members of Congress that Capitol Hill Police officers know who they are. I was urgently trying to get to an important meeting on time to fulfill my obligations to my constituents. Unfortunately, the Police Officer did not recognize me as a Member of Congress and a confrontation ensued. I did not have on my Congressional pin but showed the Police Officer my Congressional ID.

"I know that Capitol Hill Police are securing our safety, that of thousands of others, and I appreciate the work that they do. I deeply regret that the incident occurred. I have demonstrated my support for them in the past and I continue to support them now."

Must have been one very important and very wealthy lobbyist.

I didn't think they allowed Saudi sheiks in that building.

"Do I have to contact the police every time I change my hairstyle? How do we account for the fact that when I wore my braids every day for 11 years, I still faced this problem, primarily from certain white police officers," the statement says.

The writer details the incident, saying, "I was rushing to my meeting when a white police officer yelled to me. He approached me, bodyblocked me, physically touching me. I used my arm to get him off of me. I told him not to touch me several times. He asked for my ID and I showed it to him. He then let me go and I proceeded to my meeting and I assume that the Police Officer resumed his duties. I have counseled with the Sergeant-at-Arms and Acting Assistant Chief Thompson several times before and counseled with them again on today's incident. I offered also to counsel with the offending police officer."

A white man asked me for my ID. A white man! Don't they know who I am??? Shades of Martin Luther King, amen! This is all part of the Bush police state!

Did they arrest her?

Check out The Constitution of the United States, Article 1, Section 6(1). Dunno if hitting a Capital Guard meets the criteria. Anyone?

Don't send her to Iraq on a fact finding tour. If she tried this at a US Military check point, she would get her ass blown away.

Maybe she heard that a rich Arab was waving hundred dollar bills again.

McKinney is what you catch when you troll $100 bills through a trash dump.

Apparently the officer is going to press charges. From Drudge:

Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) punched a U.S. Capitol Police officer today after he mistakenly pursued her for failing to pass through a metal detector... The entire incident is on tape. The cop is pressing charges and the USCP are waiting until Congress adjourns to arrest her, a source claims... Developing...

How much fun is it going to be to watch her do the perp walk...

All she has to do is wear a little pin and she can't do that?

I bet she doesn't have it anymore.

Remember those Code Pink types who snuck into the inauguration and were seated in the congressional seating section---and proceeded to disrupt the president's address? Some Dem had given them reserved tickets. Who's to say they (or their ilk) don't have her ID pin for "special" occasions?

I hope he presses criminal charges and sues her civily. She needs to learn that she is no better than anyone else especially in view of the fact that the rodent brain she possesses is psychotic.

Maybe she could share that meeting with us so we could confirm that there is a factual basis to this story, You know if Bush or Cheney did something like this the rectal exam would be in infinite detail... right?

Speaking of sentencing, this chick needs help with her written English. How could her presumably educated staffers let a statement like that go out?

I wonder, is it a Federal Crime for one of the Little People to wear a similar pin?

In Washington DC, you're either one of the PWMs (People Who Matter), or you aren't. But the non-PWMs always want to dress up and pretend.

How is it that this incident happened over eight hours ago, and the New York Times is hearing about it only now?

"Who would you put your $$ on to reach a news camera first? Jackson Lee or McCain?"

I have this weird image in my head of the both of them skipping along, hand in hand, to the nearest camera. I judge the contest a tie for the biggest media whore.

I always get those two idiots mixed up. She's the one who's crowning legislative activity was the introduction of a bill that would require the National Archives to establish a “Tupac Amaru Shakur Records Collection".

Oh my goodness, I was completely unaware of that tidbit of legislative history. McKinney is as bizarre as advertised. In the spirit of her legislative initiative, she deserves every bit of the "bad rap" she receives for this assault on the officer.

For the benefit of others who were unaware, my research on the web found the following Wikipedia notation of the proposed legislation from McKinney.

According to McKinney, Tupac Amaru Shakur deserves equal consideration with Martin Luther King, Jr. in the National Archives. Surely, McKinney is an authority. Who are we to disagree? </sarcasm>

On November 2, 2005, U.S. Representative Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) introduced House Resolution H.R. 4210, the "Tupac Amaru Shakur Records Collection Act of 2005". This Bill was designed to "provide for the expeditious disclosure of records relevant to the life and death of Tupac Amaru Shakur." The Bill calls for the National Archives to create a collection of records related to the life and death of Tupac. The Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts, of Stone Mountain, GA, would house a second copy of the records collection. According to Congresswoman McKinney's official website, the Bill is modeled on the "MLK legislation [H.R. 2554]" to preserve and make available records pertaining to the life and death of Martin Luther King, Jr., which she introduced previously.
