House Majority Leader John A. Boehner refused yesterday to rule out compromising with the Senate to expand the House border security bill to include a guest-worker program or provisions that opponents call "amnesty." "Let's wait and see what the Senate can produce," he told reporters yesterday when asked whether House Republicans would reject the Senate Judiciary Committee's proposal to allow the estimated 12 million illegal aliens now in the U.S. to seek citizenship after paying a fine.

Really! I wish mine would. Maybe my letters are too remote. Maybe I'll try a different style. I'm always polite, but it occurs to me that I'm also impersonal. Maybe I should try the Helene Hanff style. If you have any suggestions, I'd be glad to get them.
It's spelled MORSE, not MORRIS.
Tell me again, what is the subject of this thread?
I'm just wondering if you remember, or even knew what it was about to begin with.
I know the whereabouts of one of the last living descendants of the original grantees of the Berryessa Spanish land grant which predates Mexican rule. He should assert his title and obtain the wine country. I believe their are quite a few Verdugos still alive too, they predate Mexican rule also.
Well, you win the Troll-Of-The-Day Award, hands down.
But since you are clearly uneducated on this subject, and since you are spouting off nonsense that otherwise decent people might mistake for reality, I'll take a moment to set the record straight on what President Bush has done for our border security (i.e. why the illegals are marching against *him* in the first place).
I just spent 9 days along the U.S. - Mexico border, including 2 days around Playa de Tijuana and Tijuana itself. Unlike what you'd see 5 years ago, you don't see hordes of illegals running and swimming across the border. You *do* see U.S. border patrols, U.S. Coast Guard ship patrols, helicopter patrols, and a big steel fence that GWB built after 9/11.
Now granted, this increased border security probably isn't perfect, but it irritates me that people are claiming that we've "done nothing" or that our borders are still "wide open" and other such nonsense.
Yes, there are remote desert areas where environmental groups have successfully sued the Bush Administration in order to slow the construction of the steel fence. Yes, those remote areas *are* passable on foot (but you'd better bring a bunch of water and be prepared to hike for miles) for now. So clearly more needs to be done.
But we also have to give credit where it is due, and there has been substantial progress on border security in the last 3 years, contrary to the people who keep writing articles based on pre-9/11 information.

"The president cited a 66 percent increase in border-security funding since he took office, along with a 42 percent increase in interior-enforcement spending and a total of 6 million illegal aliens caught and returned home." http://www.washingtontimes.com/functions/print.php?StoryID=20060326-123457-5749r
You've won the FreeRepublic Internet Spelling Bee.
Guess what?
NO ONE CARES!
You still have no idea what this thread was about before you blundered into it, do you?
The "back down" part comes in the extremely tepid defense of the House bill. Now we know why those House Republicans who wanted to control the border thought Boehner's election was a disaster.
Yours: Turn this into yet another anti-Bush crusade.
Mine: Mock bunker brigade boys like you.
Playing the race card from the bottom of the deck.
I wonder where you geniuses learned that novel tactic.
Hmm...
Deep thoughts.
I could tell you were just itching to throw the race card out there. Good job.
Toby, you might appreciate Southack's post #705.
I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to ask you to leave this thread. You're being entirely too logical. And me, onyx and Howlin were very recently promoted to mods, so don't cross us!
Bush's bandaid, albeit even what little he's done has he done except for external pressures, is worthless in practicality.
Bush has presided over and encouraged the disintegration of America and our sovereignty, check the numbers, listen to his B.S. rhetoric and look out on the streets of America.
Bush is in Mexico preparing America for the North America Union as we type.

Technically, my award should include some recognition for being able to decipher the MORRIS code, don't you think? You know, considering how stupid I am compared to my Brooklyn Beastie Boy mentor!
I was perfectly happy to discuss the merits of this issue-and debate the meaning of Rep. Boehner's words-before you and Bucket Brigade arrived, and proceeded to sling insults and turn this into a puerile, tit-for-tit spitting match.
That's got to be the winner, hands down.
LOL! Someone in there I went from troll to mod, too!
