Boehner hints a back down on 'amnesty'
The Washington Times ^ | March 29, 2006 | Charles hurt

Posted on 03/29/2006 7:15:28 AM PST by surely_you_jest

House Majority Leader John A. Boehner refused yesterday to rule out compromising with the Senate to expand the House border security bill to include a guest-worker program or provisions that opponents call "amnesty." "Let's wait and see what the Senate can produce," he told reporters yesterday when asked whether House Republicans would reject the Senate Judiciary Committee's proposal to allow the estimated 12 million illegal aliens now in the U.S. to seek citizenship after paying a fine.

In order to enforce a law calling for the immediate deportation of any and all illegals would require a massive investment of federal law enforcement. We cannot even enforce the laws tht we have.

That's absurd. Institute employer sanctions and they have no jobs. With no jobs, no money, millions will self-deport  themselves. Hell, give them free one way train, bus and airline tickets

Just set up an SS# database that all employees are checked against. This will weed out and leave jobless those who use phony documents. Fine employers who don't comply

Freedumb2003's Guest Worker Program
  1. Only offer jobs when a potential worker is matched to a true opening at prevailing wages (we could borrow from the Cal State system to determine "prevailing wages") to ensure we don't push down the local economy.
  2. Require that the guest worker apply from and in his/her native country
  3. Require and that there be regular "breaks" where they have to return to their country for 3 or 4 contiguous weeks per year.
  4. No family allowed, except for brief visits here. They worker can visit their native country all they want, within the normal limits of employment agreements.
  5. After a certain number of years of following the rules, they could apply for temporary permanent residency and them follow the standard path to permanent residency and citizenship now in place.
  6. The employer would be required to offer health insurance, at the most reasonable rates possible, and it would be mandatory for the guest worker to enroll and pay for it.
  7. No particular country would be "preferred" and participant slots would be reflective of the respective native country's overall population, with caps established by a commission.
  8. I think all this makes too much sense to ever be done

Latin's difficult enough without not understanding what certain phrases mean.

Thank you for this post.

I usually try to avoid just posting only to those I agree with, but in this circumstance...I just want to say amen and I'm with you on all counts.

It's remarkable how the system has fallen apart,

Ports deal didn't go through.
Miers not on the SC.
Katrina has been determined to be a natural disaster.
Bush hasn't signed an Amnesty Bill.
The economy is booming.

With all this going wrong, it's amazing we're still alive.

What's really scary, Travis, is that the Bush bots know this yet still continue to support him on the illegal immigration fiasco. Makes one wonder if they are closet che, MEChA, or one worlder supporters. Reading their post....

Thanks for the link. Bookmarked it.

The important issue is not the illegals already here, but preventing illegal immigration from today onward. If we fail to control the border and fail to effectively punish employers of illegals, the problem will only continue.

I agree. Any guest-worker/amnesty law will reward those who've gotten here illegally and encourage more to come. I oppose any bill that includes such provisions.

The Republicans must really want to lose this election.

Don't worry...most of the sheeple will forget about all this in about three months.

Yes, I know what her name is.

Don't worry, she'll be there Jan. 2007, along with all of her open border, two-faced colleagues in the U.S. Senate.

You can define yourself however you like.

Based on your answer to me earlier you don't agree with everything the president does and don't think he walks on water. The ones who do get my contempt.

Are you upset with me becuase I used the term socialist bush bot or menopausal housewife in my original post?
