House Majority Leader John A. Boehner refused yesterday to rule out compromising with the Senate to expand the House border security bill to include a guest-worker program or provisions that opponents call "amnesty." "Let's wait and see what the Senate can produce," he told reporters yesterday when asked whether House Republicans would reject the Senate Judiciary Committee's proposal to allow the estimated 12 million illegal aliens now in the U.S. to seek citizenship after paying a fine.

What Bush wants is the abomination passed yesterday by the Senate Judiciary Committee; the White House will push for all the tough provisions in the House bill to be deep-sixed when the House and Senate bills are reconciled in conference.
"Whoops!"
Whoops yourself.
"74 percent think "the government shouldn't make it easier for illegal aliens to become citizens." (USA Today/CNN, Jan. 2004)"
I just love that cherry picking of polls, especially one worded as oddly as the Time one.
In the last two days, I bet I've seen 30 people calling for Bush to be impeached.
I looked all around for that quote. Came up empty.
Live with it, pal.
No. Call center, until I can escape this area. There are no decent and honorable jobs like that available around here due to the heavy influx of illegal aliens. I also disagree with your suggestion (repeatedly on all immigration threads) that this is the only work they are doing in this country. Companies and businesses nationwide are hiring illegals over American workers (illegally) because the president and what laughingly passes for our leadership has done nothing to discourage the practice -- including enforcement of current laws.
"Yeah, the crowd that has been here for years, supporting FR and the conservative cause."
See post #1,105.
No, it's somebody who isn't using the same talking points he/she/it is.
They have not been arrested. They are doing worse than mocking us.
It is abhorrent, but, it's free speech.
Personally, I detest Americans who burn our flag, but they're permitted their free speech too. The illegals are exercising the free speech that our great country has afforded them along with other too gracious things.
I live in what used to be a very upper class to rich resort town 140 miles away from the Mexico border.
Our population has tripled in the last five years, 80% due to hispanic immigrants...(I won't pretend to know the percentage of illegals) and most of the remaining 20% 'non-brown' California refugees.
Of the 10 or so restraunts and fast food joints here that I regularly visit; in all but the two Mexican food places owned by green-carded aliens, NONE of the waitstaff, bus people etc. are hispanic. Even in Taco Bell, I have never seen a 'hispanic' worker. One of the hosts and two of the hostesses at the fanciest place are hispanic, but probably legal as they are extremely fluent in english.
Only three of the employees that I have SEEN at the local Wal-Mart superstore are hispanic. The rest are 'white' or 'native american'; about half of each 'race'. (The Mescalero Apache Reservation is right next to us).
Only one 'hispanic' seen working at either of the other two local grocery stores, and none at the four 'convenience' stores.
Of the other retail, low paying places that I frequent, only the three 'hispanic owned' dollar stores have hispanic employees 'doing jobs that Americans wont'; The rest have mostly white and a significant number of Apache employees in their minimum wage jobs.
All the people that do lawncare that I know or see are 'white'.
Have never seen a hispanic groundskeeper, greenskeeper at any of our several local golf courses.
About half the maids at the motels are white, and about half are hispanic and a few 'others'.
The only places around here that I see large numbers of 'immigrants doing jobs Americans won't do' are the construction industry.
That USED to be the only way that local people without a college degree and/or a real estate Brokers License or enough smarts to run their own business could make a decent wage in this area.
But now, those American Citizens have to take minimum wage 'jobs that illegal aliens won't take' or leave the area to find a better job, because the non-english speaking hispanics fill the good paying construction jobs that used to keep local families together and living comfortably.
I have to admit that I must be missing something: The jobs that I do see 'immigrants' doing around here certainly don't support the hordes of 'immigrants' now populating this place.
The main activity I see them in is shopping and eating; At any given time, day and night, 80% of the customers in any retail store or restraunt are jabbering in spanish. The kids running wild and the adults blocking the aisles with carts and people side by side, many rudely or even aggressively refusing to let people through or access to the shelves they are perusing.
SO, I can see why the retailers here are for open borders even though they don't often hire them: They love them because they are in a continuous shopping frenzy. How they pay for it, I don't even pretend to know. The ones I do see working sure can't support all those shoppers.
Even though the crime rate has tripled every year for the last few years, that, combined with the construction workers income can't account for all the shoppers.
Oh, and one other place that I see predominately hispanic people: the Hospital Emergency room (I have an invalid, hypochondriac mother, and visit there often, unfortunately).
Even though it is a 'church run, charitable hospital'; twenty - ten, - even five years ago, every year they had excess money in their accounts, and a great reputation for high quality care. The last three years, they have been in huge financial trouble, and now have a horrible reputation for care.
It has only been about four years since we have had a lot of 'immigrants' moving in here, despite our proximity to the border. Hmmm... I wonder if there is any correlation between that and the hospital situation.
Anyway, the purpose of this whole long screed is merely this:
I don't really believe that canard about 'doing jobs that Americans won't do': Nearly all the crappy, low paying jobs around here are filled by " 'White' and 'Apache' Americans".
The 'immigrants' have taken over most of the GOOD jobs around here that historically employed our local high school graduates and dropouts and gave them decent incomes.
Wow. A poster who fancies his own intellectual capabilities to such an extent that anybody who supported Bush is dumb and stupid.
If you didn't have the shield of the shrieking banshees to hide behind, you'd still be lurking.
BTW, smarty-pants. What is "stiffle"? Some new word that you just made up?
Oh, I doubt it's a newbie.
"Live with it, pal."
You're free to believe what you want. The house of representatives won't pass the guest worker amnesty, live with it.
You're changing the subject now?
Dog Gone and I were talking about what the people of this country FAVOR -- and it ain't deporting 12 million people.
It's never been a "let's elect Democrats so they can impeach Bush" website, either.
But, I may find out differently down the road.
It's that kind of mushy thinking that has got us to where we are now.
You can pass a law that qualifies every illegal for the death penalty, but unless that law can be realistically enforced it is less than worthless.
In addition, the logistics of enforcing some laws can be so difficult, it is almost no use having the law on the books. It feels good and nothing more.
If there are the 12 million illegals that are suggested, how many law enforcement personnel are going to be needed to process these people? Where will you hold them on a temporary basis? If they have been here for many years, where will you deport them to? How would you deal with the media reaction of showing scores of people herded into detention camps? Would you put them in buses to Mexico or rail cars? The logistics of the deportation option are completely infeasible.
Live with it.
Never mind all that! Damn the torpedos, full steam ahead.
You've got a lot of nerve coming around her injecting reality into this thread.
