Boehner hints a back down on 'amnesty'
The Washington Times ^ | March 29, 2006 | Charles hurt

House Majority Leader John A. Boehner refused yesterday to rule out compromising with the Senate to expand the House border security bill to include a guest-worker program or provisions that opponents call "amnesty." "Let's wait and see what the Senate can produce," he told reporters yesterday when asked whether House Republicans would reject the Senate Judiciary Committee's proposal to allow the estimated 12 million illegal aliens now in the U.S. to seek citizenship after paying a fine.

There will have to be a compromise. The House will have to tell the senate in conference that they will only accept their plan if the senate accepts the border fence. Bottom line: A border fence requirement in the final bill is essential one way or another. The House better not back down from the fence!

What exactly have you written that is even half convincing?

Guest workers should only be seasonal workers in the fields

Nothing wrong with that. The problem is... what do we do about the 20-30 million taking the "jobs we won't do."

I have browsed this forum for almost four years now.

That's what all the newbies say. We never believe it.

They are exercising their FREE speech. It's abhorrent to me, but FREE SPEECH is ours to exercise and tolerate from others, even illegal aliens.

"There is nothing impractical about fencing off the southern border. There is no engineering obstactle in such a task that we cannot overcome."

I agree. Well, if you don't count Florida's coast as a "Southern" border, anway.

You'll note that the link and quote up above shows that President Bush supports the 700 miles of new Southern border fence, by the way.

He pointed out, however, that fencing in all of our borders (think Hawaii, Alaska, Florida, Texas Coast, etc.) would be impractical.

But the 700 miles of new fence in the House bill is doable (and is supported by the GOP).

Misuse of the American flag by foreign nationals on our soil is 'free speech' to you? Flying the flag of a foreign nation over our public buildings is 'free speech'?

More like fighting words where I live.

I wonder how many other old timers are out there, totally disgusted with the way this place changed?

The change has been underway for nearly two years. The worst of the lot--headed by the excreble Joe Hadenuf--were obsessive-compulsive on the issue of immigration, to the point of hijacking every thread with their ranting and raving. They were, thankfully, flushed.

Like the Dubai ports deal, however, the ignorant and uninformed--who never forego an opportunity to trash Bush--have risen from their crypts and are now open about their desire that Bush be impeached by a newly-elected Democrat House.

I never thought I'd see the day when Free Republic tolerated open promotion of the Democrat Party retaking the Congress. But, that's where we are.

It's the whole crowd.

Yeah, the crowd that has been here for years, supporting FR and the conservative cause.

You're still in diapers, NU, and you need changing.
