No flood of cash offers yet for waterlogged school bus

At $9,000, what a deal: It doesn't even run:

The listing on eBay, the Internet auction site, is straightforward enough: New Orleans public school bus, 1993 International Bluebird. Minimum price: $9,000.

Not interested?

OK, let's sweeten the offer: the 13-year-old Bluebird doesn't run.

Still holding back? Well, see if this doesn't make you grab your credit card: The bus was under water for a few weeks.

For Katrina-weary New Orleanians, a flooded-out school bus is just another piece of debris that should have been hauled away months ago.

But if you're the cash-strapped city school system trying to market one to a deep-pocketed collector, it's a piece of history.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, district spokesman Richard White said. "As everyone knows, our financial situation is dire," he said. "We're way beyond brownies and bake sales at this point."

Instead, the school district is trying to turn lemons into lemonade, as the saying goes. "Exclusive limited offer. Own a piece of history," the listing reads before going on to disclose the vehicle's rough handling by Katrina and the ensuing flood.

9 grand for a school bus that doesn't run.

Only a LA politician would be stupid enough to fall for that deal.

Wait a minute...

If the bus had been used to EVACUATE people, it would not be a rust-prone pile of mold.

The local politicians should be forced to eat them.

"Exclusive limited offer. Own a piece of history,"

A monument to the worst city and state government in American history.

I bid a quarter.

Thanks for the offer but I'll pass.

YOU keep "your history".

Nine grand, huh. Here's a clue for people who want to sell storm-damaged merchandise: It's basically worthless. It does not go for top dollar. Found the link: EBay Katrina busses

Made a piece of "history" by the ineptitude of the local government.

Nagin should be forced to repair and refurbish each one personally. (He might want to paint them a nice chocolate color.)

"The bus was under water for a few weeks."

If it was just water that would be bad enough.
Add 9,000+ chemicals, sewage etc. etc.
No Choclate man! ! !
NO BUS! ! ! !

Are they out of their minds, trying to sell these busses like that? The inside of those busses are going to be toxic waste sites with the chemicals and mold. Every one of them should be gutted, and then the remaining metal sold for scrap.

Now if the floodwaters left an image of Jesus on it, then Golden palace might take it.

The bus has been bid up to $1050, but the reserve has not been met. Hard to believe they'd refuse any offer on this pile of toxic trash.

Looking at that ebay auction, I wouldn't want to buy from that seller with 0 feedback. I think someone just made this auction up, I doubt if NO would list buses on ebay. I know this is funny folks, but lets be honest now.

Wow. A local school ditrict sold a non-running bus at the last auction I went to for ~$150. It would have brought more than that on the scales if the wrecker fee didn't eat it all up.

If you get that bus for a quarter remember you are esponsible for towing it away, the costs of that tow could run into the thousands depending on where you live.

Even a short tow would be a couple of hundred dollars then there are storage fees, and your neighbors might not like seeing a rotting scum covered bus sitting in your driveway.
