Preposterous headline, Hal... WINDOWS is absolutely, positively NOT going to be banned in Europe. One release of Windows may be banned, Windows VISTA, if Microsoft makes it so that it doesn't comply with anti-trust law.
"Home Basic N" and "Business N" editions of Windows Vista will additionally be available in the European Union countries. These editions will ship without Windows Media Player, as required by sanctions brought against Microsoft for violating anti-trust laws.

...Well, the first part anyway.
It's ridiculous to argue the OS/browser bundling point anymore. Internet use accounts for the majority of computer use. Hence, a browser is as much a part of the OS as the OS itself.
With more and more applications moving to web based sites this argument is even more futile. Boxed software will be dead within the decade except for the OS and server side applications. Once digital distribution is the norm as opposed to the exception the OS becomes nothing more than a glorified browser for all intensive purposes.
I'm a Mac user and my experience is enhanced by having iTunes, Quick Time, Safari all tied so closely to the OS. I love the fact that when I run software updates that all the Apple software is updated as it becomes available. I hate running seperate updates for every single non-Apple product I use. It really doesn't make for a good user experience if I need to run Adobe, Office, Graphic Converter, Dreamweaver etc. updates seperately.
Integration to me is a blessing, not a curse.
I have Firefox, Opera, IE (Which I never use since it hasn't been updated in 4 years.) and the bundled browser, IMHO, is the best one out there. I know Firefox and Opera fans will dispute me but I know what I end up using on a daily basis.
The EU is out of their gords, as usual.
If that happens, be very afraid of EU dominance! Just watch 'em go with a Minitel-based society.
