The "first order of business for the federal government in dealing with illegal immigration is to secure the nations borders, Arnold Schwarzenegger declares in an Op-Ed piece.
And the California governor says that granting amnesty to illegals is "anarchy.
"We learned on 9/11 that not all those who cross our borders want to share in the American dream, Schwarzenegger writes in the Los Angeles Times.
"A few want to replace it with a nightmare. If we don't know who is coming over our borders, we won't know what they might do. And in a post-Sept. 11 world, that is a risk we cannot take. Congress must strengthen our borders.
Criminalizing immigrants for coming into the U.S. as some have called for is not an answer, according to the governor.
"Instead, I urge Congress to get tough on those illegal immigrants who are a danger to society. If an illegal immigrant commits a serious crime, he must leave the country one strike and you're out. No excuses, no delays.
Schwarzenegger also said the U.S. should pass "a common-sense temporary worker program so that every person in our nation is documented. We can embrace the immigrant without endorsing illegal immigration.
"Granting citizenship to people who are here illegally is not just amnesty it's anarchy. We are a country of immigrants, yes. But we are also a nation of laws.
Finally, he said, "We should assimilate immigrants into the mainstream. We want immigrants to not just live in America but to live as Americans.
He makes sense a lot of the time... up until he reverses himself.
Isn't that the truth. Every politician has an out clause on this subject. They're all disgusting!
Guest worker is amnesty.
Well, I'm thinking about making a call to the Governator's office anyway.
Will he be willing or able to take action on these words? Will we?
How do you make someone want to live as an american, when they come here thinking the land they are on is their own? And we are occupiers and oppressors and they wave the Mexican Flag while demanding their social welfare payment???????
They don't want to live american... they want all the benefit without any of the responsibility....
George Bush; doing more damage to the Republicans then the Democrats have failed to accomplish in the last 150 years.
Can you imagine how many Mexican families are packing their bags at this very moment?
Key line: We want immigrants to not just live in America but to live as Americans.
Common sense temporary worker program
Common sense gun control
Common sense DUI regs
Common sense smoking regs
Common sense tax evasion avoidance
It's just common sense to use common sense in a sensible way, eh?
/sarcasm
Not necessarily.
Not to Republican Maverick John MeCain. He was on one of the morning shows spinning his best that giving Illegal Mexican Nationals a work program and eventually citizenship is not amnesty. ...he knows what amnesty is.
Somebody needs to tell the quisling senate that an amnesty is anarchy, but they'll pretend what their second rate committee passed was not one. It's up to the house of representatives to stop this madness.
And I know who John McCain is, and will remember it in '08 when I go to the voting booth.
"Guest worker is amnesty."
Not necessarily.... the actual "road to citizenship" however...is.
"What is my county going to be like for my little Caucasian 10 year old daughter?"
Look at Mexico city and there's a peek at her future.
The Senate is only worried about votes. There is a huge Hispanic voter block which is growing by leaps and bounds and will be bigger than any other voter block if it isn't already - they don't want to lose out on those votes and THAT is a big reason why they are wimping out BIG TIME on this.
"Look at Mexico city and there's a peek at her future."
