The price a culture pays for its love of the gun
Seattle Post-Intelligencer ^ | 3/28/2006 | Robert L. Jamieson

Posted on 03/28/2006 12:09:47 PM PST by Junior_G

Don't blame the rave scene for the Seattle's worst mass murder in more than two decades.

Blame the guns -- and a culture that celebrates firepower...

Mr. Jamieson is a moron. While I do have a certain fondness for my guns, I wouldn't say I "love" them. What I do love is the liberty afforded to all good U S citizens by the 2nd. We live in probably the best civilian-armed nation in the world; while its no use arguing with morons and mental incompetents, I must say that the level of gun violence is quite low considering how many firearms are in the hands of the population. By contrast, the level of gun violence in countries in which only police, military and goons are armed is much higher. Name almost any nation in Africa; hell, name Great Britain!

That's right, an all-night techno-dance ecstasy party where everyone dressed up like dead drugged goth zombies had nothing to do with it.

I hold the NRA and puppies responsible.

I can attest to my AR-15 not having killed anyone in the 6 months that it has been all alone in my closet.

Been 11 *years* and counting for any of mine...

Well, let's see - these were folk hopped up on drugs...the school shootings? Almost to a perp, they were on legally prescribed antidepressants - with anger, violence and suicide as possible side-effects. and the ones who couldn't get a gun - made pipe bombs or used knives.

Yep. Plain as day - GUNS FAULT.

e-mail sent, FWIW:

"The blood on Capitol Hill should jolt us to our senses about guns in society."

It does, Mr. Jamieson, it really does.

Had they called 911 it would have still been all over before police arrived.

All they could do was run, dive out windows, cower in bathtubs--or die.

You see, apparently, none of the persons in that house had a firearm for defensive purposes. None of them shot the perpetrator, he apparently had to do even that for them. They were helpless to end the rampage.

Why? Because they were not armed. They could not stop the killing.

I fail to understand why, in view of such facts, there is a call for making even more people helpless in the face of those who would count them among their victims, especially when the insane and those of criminal intent do not care what is ensconced in the lawbooks of the State of Wasington, or any other political document or entity, for that matter.

They will find a way to conduct their malicious handiwork regardless of statute, and can only be stopped by the judicious and timely application of force. Lethal force if need be. A firearm enables even those who are of the slightest of build to apply that force, if need be, in the defense of self, guests, family, friends, and ultimately, the community.

You can never eliminate firearms from the face of the Earth. But in moments of grief, twisted people will always call for the removal of them from those who might need them most, those who would be otherwise the next victims.

More people are shot and killed in South Africa than die in car accidents. And gun violence is on the rise since the end of apartheid despite new Draconian gun laws including special licensing and total registration. There are about 2 million citizens who own registered guns in SA.

our nation is overrun with guns, including high-caliber assault rifles

I wonder where I can get me one of them. Every assault rifle I've looked at is medium-caliber.

>>>I can attest to my AR-15 not having killed anyone in the 6 months that it has been all alone in my closet. <<<

I can attest to having two automatics and a rifle that are similarly lazy. None of them has done a damn thing in the past three months - pure layabouts. You'd think they were on welfare or something.

I don't know how many times I've told them to get off their asses and go kill something - but they pay no attention.

"In Montana, he faced a felony criminal mischief charge in 2000 for blasting a statue of a moose with gunfire. He later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor."

So he was already breaking the law by owning guns. Maybe if there were MORE laws, he would have obeyed them.

What is even more wacky is that the same liberal wackos who hate guns also don't trust the military.

Yep, amazing. They want to disarm all the "rednecks," but don't consider who will have a monopoly on guns if that happens.

The liberals also don't want the police to be forceful on street thugs and ordinary criminals. The Liberals think that these people are a result of "Abuse by society", and that we need therapy to understand them.

Only 39% of American households have guns?
There ought to be a law against that. Should be twice that many have guns.
