Mexican President Vincente Fox wants Canada to consider opening its doors to more unskilled Mexican workers to deal with a looming labour shortage.
Fox told The Globe and Mail in an exclusive interview that Canada should greatly expand its current temporary work program for agricultural workers from Mexico.
Canadian farms are allowed to recruit foreign workers under the Seasonal Agricultural Workers Program, as long as they can't find Canadians to harvest their crops.
Fox said he wants that agreement expanded to include plant nurseries, construction, restaurants services and golf courses to deal with labour shortages from Canada's aging population.
He said Mexican workers should be able to sign up with Canadian employers for specific time periods. It's not clear how long he is suggesting, but presumably it would be longer than for migrant farm workers.
About 7,000 Mexican workers came to farms in Ontario last year. Many of them worked in Leamington, Ont., where the Mexican government has now set up a consulate.
Fox granted the interview to The Globe ahead of a summit this week in Cancun with Prime Minister Stephen Harper and U.S. President George Bush.
The Mexican president is already backing a large-scale "guest worker" program in the United States, where the immigrant issue has heated up over the past few days.
On Monday, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved legislation that clears the way for illegal aliens in the country to apply for U.S. citizenship without first having to return home.
It also approved a new temporary program allowing entry for 1.5 million workers seeking jobs in the agriculture industry
As well, the committee voted down proposed criminal penalties on immigrants to be found illegally in the country.
Over the weekend and on Monday, hundreds of thousands of people rallied in Los Angeles and other U.S. cities demanding Congress abandon legislation passed in the House that would make being an undocumented immigrant a felony.
Who the H*ll does he think he is? DICTATOR! Canada can gladly have all the ones here, them and their juvenile delinquents gangs of good for nothing illiterates.

He is ruining our Country with the future generation of kids who are walking out of school and DEMONSTRATING, already making demands on us and our country,who have no respect for teachers, classmates, schools, adults, the good for nothings were taught well from their criminal parents.
When was the last time you allowed your AMERICAN kids to ignore teachers and walk out of school to demonstrate? What about these good for nothing bums mingling with your kids? What about having to pay taxes to try to educate the illeterates?

Yes, we have, and he is happy as hell. Just look at the influence on the spineless power mongers of the Congress who are COWERING under the threat of losing a vote, if they do WHAT IS RIGHT for America, and what is the majority desire of America's REAL citizens. Fox has achieved his goal of being able to influence U.S. policy, independent of the preferences of the majority of Americans, and he is a happy camper.

My fellow van-pooler -- he's Hispanic -- said USA should invade and conquer Mexico. It can be our 51st state. At least we'll have control, and the new border to the south will be smaller and easier to monitor. The money the illegals make here ends up back in Mexico as it is, so we're already supporting it to a great extent.
For Mr. Fox, it's perfectly logical. In fact, for him it's a triple whammy. U.S. and Canadian taxpayers get to foot the bill for the services of more and more of his people, more and more money gets sent back to Mexico (the remittances are now one of their biggest national sources of income), and the cherry on the sundae to top it all off is the spreading of this "La Raza" stuff that will serve to extend their interests even further into our countries.
Get ready, because pretty soon you're going to start seeing those Mexican flags on the streets of Canada just like we're seeing them here in the U.S.

This is just another way for Mexico to aid and abet the illegal migration of their ignorant masses into our country. It is getting tougher to get them across the southern border so now he want to send them in from the North.
