The Republican party needs to wake up and realize that they will NEVER be the party of choice for hispanics. Especially now that it's so apparent that the Republican base strongly opposes illegal immigration.

I recall a lot of the same fantasies that black voters would come to the GOP if we let a black politician speak prominently at our convention. Total nonsense.

If there is any political sanity in the GOP, they will oppose citizenship for illegal aliens to their last breath. Because once they get citizenship, that's a few million more lifetime voters for the Democratic party.

This all seems as obvious as the nose on my face- why can't our party see this? Disregarding the fact that it's the right thing to do to enforce our laws, it's the smart thing politically for the Republicans to make themselves the alternative to the Democratic rush to Mexicanize this country. A strong majority of Americans oppose that - it's insanity that some GOPers are still trying to appeal to hispanics.

The demonstrations prove that illegal immigrants need to be encourage to leave and mass deportation have to the started. We need the military here at home to protect this country from being overrun by foreign forces and hordes of criminals who enter illegally and then demand special privileges. Why should illegal immigrants (including the pedophiles and terrorists among them) be above the law?

Democrats Will Use Immigration to Divide and Conquer

I watched the Judiciary Committee debate yesterday afternoon and there was a couple of staff members sitting behind Teddy "The Swimmer" Kennedy with $hit eating grins on their face. It was enough to make me puke.

But I can hardly blame them. They had Sam Brownback carrying water for Teddy Kennedy. They were getting what they wanted and watching the Republican base get shafted.

I can only hope that someday Brownback runs for National office so that I get the chance to vote against him.

DeWine has all but sealed his fate here in Ohio, if he votes to support amnesty one more time (on a revised bill that becomes law) he's done as our senator.

Of course he really doesn't care, you see this is all payback for the conservatives rejecting his son for state office.

DeWine didn't cave in to democrats, he willing joined them in a spiteful little hissy fit that is indicative of the man he is not.

Any bill that does not refuse amnesty, and require true border and internal enforcement will collapse public confidence in the GOP Congress, and therefore be the breaking point of the Republican Party. The bill passed by the Senate Judiciary Committee rewards lawbreakers with amnesty, plain and clear.

Truer words were never written.

if the federal government will respond to 89 percent of Americans who believe illegal immigration is a serious problem

Hello, you are all missing the big picture. If 89% of Americans are against illegal immigration, do the numbers and come up with the conclusion that even lots of independants and Dims are against amnesty provisions. Republicans may be split in the government, but the base obviously is not. Nor does the Dim base like this type of law.

Republicans who stand firm against illegal immigration may stand to gain votes from Dims and Independants on this issue.

I wrote both my senators, and the RNC, and told them point blank, any bill that grants amnesty or citizenship to illegal aliens without facing punishment for their actions and they can kiss my vote and support goodbye, not only them but the entire party, I've had enough.

If that means we have to deal with another decade of communists running things for a few terms until a 3rd party matures, or the republicans purge their own party so be it.

It is unconscionable that US Citizens put up chain link and barbed wire around their own homes to protect themselves from the criminals pouring across our border.

The argument these people want to be americans is a complete lie... they protest waving Mexican Flags, claiming its their land, and wearing Chavez and other communists on their shirts... sorry, these aren't people interested in joining the melting pot, they are not americans and have no desire to be... Deport them, arrest and fine employers who hire them and enforce the laws on the books.

If the United States, while awash in illegals that pose an open, direct threat to its sovereignty as a nation, AND while fighting a war against terrorists who's strategy is to violate borders and perpetrate murder, cannot act decisively to preserve basic security, our national sovereignty, and our way of life, I then fear that America has been internally weakened beyond repair. A nation paralyzed into inactivity by adherence to politically-correct, leftist mish-mash, that is incapable of defending itself on the most basic levels, cannot, as historical time goes, long endure.

But the Illegal Immigration issue isn't one that solely spilts Republicans -- too bad the MSM isn't pointing this out more.

Let me get this straight; Democrats are going to divide (more than we are now?) and conquer the U.S. by siding with terrorists and illegal aliens? Apart from their base issue of infanticide they plan to run on a BoRs for illegals and a BoRs for Al Queda? What a plan!

If 89% are in favor of immigration reform and as I have read elsewhere, on the 70's% are against amnesty.

Aren't the democrats going to fracture their own base as well? I can't imagine amnesty sits all to well with the Unions. Here comes a work force to bust the auto unions.

With polling numbers as high as they are on this issue, there is a whole lot of democrats and republicans thinking amnesty is a bad idea.

This will backfire on the Rats. After the Senate and House start the negotiations the final product will be tighter than the Senate Bill but looser than the House Bill (design of congress), it will go to the house for the vote and will pass but the Senate vote will be stalled from cloture by 40+ Democrats thus making them the ones who stalled Immigration Reform because they won't accept a tougher bill. The RINOs who voted in the Senate for the weaker bill will have one last chance to climb aboard to closer what the people want but because all Republicans are only 55 they won't have enough to beat cloture. The House will never let this weak Senate Bill be the law of the land but if there can be a good will negotiation that has a chance to pass, it's a win, win for the GOP as a whole even if they can't beat cloture. I can't wait to hear Reid claim to kill Immigration Reform.

This slightly off-topic but I would like to see more demands by Americans that Mexico get its act together.

The USA is not the country that needs to reform - it is MEXICO. It is Mexico that is run by and for the traditional oligarchy of old families - leaving the peasants to starve or come to America.

And then the dupes that make it here are so dumb that they continue to wave the Mexican flag instead of doing everything they can to throw over the rulers of Mexico.

Oh, right, in Mexico they would be shot for what they did last weekend in this country.

Unchecked and pandered to as they are now, it shouldn't take them long to turn America into Chihuahua North. Look out Canada.

Americans are conditioned to believe that illegal aliens support our workforce, because they supposedly take jobs Americans will not do. ... There is no job Americans will not do. The hottest, most difficult, dirtiest and dangerous job in the world is rooting terrorists out of Fallujah. Marines are doing that job for $8.09 an hour.

Worth repeating.

Rep King writes:We can stop illegal workers from taking jobs in the U.S. My New Illegal Deduction Elimination Act, or New IDEA, H.R. 3095, would eliminate the tax deduction employers can take on wages and benefits paid to illegal workers so it becomes a taxable event. The result would be to raise the cost of a $10 per hour illegal to a $16 per hour worker, creating the opportunity for American workers, shutting down the jobs magnet and broadening our middle class.

Can anyone clarify this? I don't know enough about tax law to know how this would work.
