Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld in a news conference today said he did not know that documents have been released that showed
Russia provided intelligence to Iraq's government on U.S. military movements in the opening days of the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.

I think he is feigning ignorance/buying time while it gets sorted out.
I don't think we should trust the Russians or the Chinese as far as we can throw them.....
And, if we are going to TRUST, then we better do a lot better job at the VERIFY.

I agree with nuffsenuff. I just watched the Rumsfeld press conference and the reporters were all over this, asking questions about why he didn't know about this (which I think is because NO ONE HAD TRANSLATED THE DOCUMENTS WHICH IS WHY THEY WERE RELEASED). It was pretty funny, because a week ago these reporters didn't care two cents about these documents, but now, NOW that they think they have a chance to "get" Runsfeld, they are all over this story.
I will bet they are hiring Arabic translators out of their own pockets so that they can find out all the juicy details.
ONly, of course, those details won't be what they want.
He also talked about the translations being done by hundreds of people who can cross-check with others, and that the public will be able to see for themselves.

He said he didn't know if there was an INVESTIGATION into who might have leaked the information to Russia. He also said that he was CERTAIN that if it needed investigating, it was being done.
Period.

Yep, he is exactly right. Read my tag line. Rummy does it again. Now, these dopes are going to highlight the documents, go out and hire translators to find out "what the administration didn't know", then they will either have to shut up, or release their findings.

But what you said he said is an outright lie.
He was asked about an INVESTIGATION; that's what he said he didn't know about.
Just what are you trying to do here?
And, BTW, Bush is the one who DEMANDED they be released, translated or not.
