Simple math has become a real problem in newsrooms. Not even watching too closely for errors, I've noticed: * Lyn Nofziger's passing at age 81 reported initially as age 71. * Kirby Puckett's stroke and death had him listed as age 44, 45 and 46 in various news reports. * Jeff Bagwell was listed as the Astros' franchise leader in runs scored, a mark actually held by Craig Biggio. That's just in the past couple of weeks from someone who doesn't comb everything across the wires. Always makes you wonder, when the easy-to-check facts are incorrect, how many other "facts" are we given that are simply untrue.

The site of the accident is almost exactly one mile due north of the Dallas City limits (not northwest) . And for the record, the City of Dallas does extend into Denton County.

I have also noticed that AP muddle their photo caption calling Condi Rice Defense Secretary and Don Rumsfeld Secretary of State.

As the VP has said several times in the day of 24 hour news a lot of the checking and verifying of news stories before they are published or reported is no longer happening. There is so much pressure to be first with the story whether it is accurate or not does not seem to matter.
