No doubt Senators Clinton and McCain are working on alternative legislation to put a gatekeeper in position before the 08 elections.
Hey, what's Jamie Gorelick doing these days? She sure came through in deflecting the 9-11 Commission away from the Clinton Administration. And she was instrumental in building the wall between the CIA and FBI. Imagine how effective she could be an the gatekeeping Commissioner of the Internet.

I never believed this was applicable to FR since it has never endorsed candidates or parties per se.

This isn't good news. The FEC is trying to establish the principle the Internet can be regulated by the federal government. It can withdraw the so-called exemption later. After all, its just a rule.

ALL the no-speech six months before rules should be stricken from the books! The FEC probably wants to regulate the web, but couldn't figure out how... Or perhaps they have decided to do little by little. After all, didn't this article say they decided FOR regulating paid ads on the internet? Sorry all, but I cannot leave this post without underdcoring that our own president signed the original monstrosity McCain-Feingold... Shame on all involved in this.

Looks like we dodged the bullet. I'd say the FEC dodged a firestorm.
To: KentTrappedInLiberalSeattle
Sounds like Soros and Co. and the MoveOn.org crowd just made a huge payout to the FEC.

I take it FR does not accept paid political ads then? Note that the decision still means that bloggers and online publications WILL be covered by provisions of the new election law if they accept paid political ads.
To: Quilla
The whooshing sound you hear is the air going out of the McCain Express '08 (thank goodness).

This is worded funny.
Anyone know what this REALLY says?
It said paid political ads.
Wouldn't that still include blogs and forums that receive donations?
Because a donation to a blog to write something can be seen as an ad.
